How does one recruit more soldiers?

I was reading through the manual and could not seem to find the section that might describe how exactly you get more "men"

For example, if I make an army, it has 0 troops in it and is basically an empty container.

However, how do I increase the actual size of my army. I see where I can set the draft and such, but how do I purchase or "draft" more soldiers to make my armies bigger?

Are the draftees automatically pulled from the pool like it states in 7.1 in the book?

Each movement phase, draftees from a nation’s draft pool are removed from the pool
and distributed to the weakened troop units controlled by that nation as follows:
divisions within a nation’s possessions receive the largest • disbursement
of draftees
• divisions that are outside a nation’s possessions but in supply receive an
intermediate amount
• divisions outside of a nation’s possessions and out of supply receive only
a minimal amount of draftees
• divisions inside a besieged city do not receive draftees

If they are, which screen shows the current draft pool?

So I guess what I am asking is if I have an empty container, how do I ensure it gets filled up?

Divisions are produced. These are also "containers" designating type (infantry, light infantry, cavalry, heavy cavalry, artillery, etc.)that go inside Corps and Armies. Men from the draft pool are then used to replace losses in these divisions.

You build divisins from the province developement dialog. Each province has different abilities and unit types it can build. You build your units and then put those into a container (or not). Militia troops cannot be part of an army. They may fight alongside an army in the event of a battle on home territory, but those cannot tag along on invasions.

Manpower used for unit builds come directly from the province where it is built at. That will draw down the popularion of the province. Replacements come from the draft pool which in turn comes from a particualr province (any) at a rate and freqency set by you using the draft and training sliders.

Some replacements also comes ""free of charge" to any nation that has some feudal levy as well.

Army Corp containers are built seperately. When you have a division selected you can put it into the container just as you put it into a city-there are limits.

I am also running low on cash with Sweden pretty hard core.

Trade some surplus iron or something for moeny. You can also raise taxes, but there is a down side to that. If you reduce military rediness, you can lower your set costs quite a bit.

One area I am a little grey in is the following:

I know that once a division takes losses, that replacements come out of the draft pool.

What about when you first BUILD a division? Are men pulled from the draft (and trained) men? I haven't noticed this, but it seems like it should be happening.

No they are drawn from the Men population of the build province or from adjacent provinces - 2 for infantry or 1 for cavalry/artillery.

No, the men in a produced unit are pulled out of the producing province and the adjacent provinces randomly. I assume the production time abstracts the formation being raised and the men drilled.

The draft pool is only for replacements to existing formations.

Well I believe the "barracks level" in each province abstracts facilities training cadres for the purpose of raising divisions.

Outside those abstractions I agree it would not make much sense. Particularly in the case of a vanilla infantry division. However, I would also point out that every other division type take substantially longer to raise than 2 months and part of the higher cost of raising a division could represent a more expensive accelerated training schedule.

Draft costs are very low, so the training schedule there could represent a much more sedate training tempo.
