Game Performance Degrading

Post by apbarog »

I have been playing a game versus the AI. Up until today, I've been doing one turn at a time, and saving and exiting the game between turns. Today I did a turn, ran the combat phase, and then started plotting the next turn. I am noticing a reduction in performance, particularly in clicking on bases on the map. I get a bit of lag that didn't occur in the first turn, or any turn prior to this one.

I can't quantify this. I am running the patch, and it helped tremendously, but the performance degraded with the next turn. It's not as bad as pre-patch, but it exists. I've been taking an hour or two plotting my turns, so it includes a lot of windows opening and closing.

Just wanted to let you know that there may be an issue here. My dxdiag is included (same as what I posted in the "Questions for those with performance issues" thread. Thanks.

[edit] My system is a single processor, despite what dxdiag says, due to it multi-threading.

Hm, is this while playing in Windowed or Full Screen mode? Do you have other apps running in the background while you play? Could a virus scan or something like that have kicked in while you were playing?

This is in full-screen mode. No other apps running, and I don't tab out to anything else.

I don't notice any degradation toward the end of the first turn of plotting, but right after the combat phase, it is immediate and noticeable. Maybe something in the end-of-turn processing. I'll run several turns in a row without exiting today to see if it is cumulative.

I ran a test doing 3 turns of plotting without exiting the game.

Loaded the game and did a turn of plotting. Everything is fine with performance.
Ended the turn and watched combat.

From the beginning of turn two of plotting, there is a performance degradation. The most obvious example is working a TF window. Set a new destination on the map. When the TF window redraws, the column headings are slow to fill in, and the information at the bottom of the window is slow to draw also. I finished plotting turn two and ran combat.

For turn three plotting, the degradation still exists, but does not appear to be worse than in plotting turn two.

Hope this helps. I'm enjoying the game greatly. My all-time favorite game has gotten much better.
