Really frustrated

Post by parusski »

I have read the game crashing bug and game locking up forum hoping to see what might be causing my game to crash every few turns. I have tried running the game on three operating systems and it crashes under each one. I am have a little ability to troubleshoot pc problems-I have a BS with a double major in computer science and information systems. My masters is computer engineering. I can't see why this is occuring.

PC1-Alienware:
Intel i7-975 Extreme 3.86 GHz 8MB Cache
ATI Radeon HD 4870 quad GPU 2 gig ram video
12GB DDR SDRAM
Intel X-58 motherboard
4 hard drives-one with XP, one with Vista, one with Win7, one with Linux.

My laptop:
Voodoo Envy:
Intel Centrino core2 duo sp7700 processor
4GB RAM
Intel graphics accelerator GUP 1Gig
Dual boot with XP and Vista

Ok, guys, two different systems. Crash happens on both. Crash occurs on XP, Vista and Win7.

Crash occurs during AI calculations, while I am making purchases, while I am deploying, or right after a move ANY unit.
I am really agitated because I like the game-or the tiny amount of time I can play.

The ConsoleOut.Txt file and a zipped autosave folder are your friends. Ship them to the developers, attach them here, or directly email them. The ConsoleOut.Txt file should end with the last successful action, which maked for a good debugging tool. There are a variety of things which can cause the game to end in "debugging mode" and some can be fixed pretty easily, for example, if troops are trying to load on an aircraft carrier. The last lines of ConsoleOut tell a lot.

If this does not get it the programmers can run in development mode and see the bug crash. Of course it must be reproducible. They really try hard, so give them a chance.

Do you have any favorite identical software that you installed on both of your machines? Maybe your version of the game is corrupted somehow?

My software is identical on two of my Alienware drives-the XP and Vista systems. All my OS's and all software are running perfectly on my pc's. I will send the CO text.

I think that list of applications running while you play ToW can also help. Things like Skype, any anti-virus, some widgets maybe...

MEA CULPA

Post by parusski »

Well, so much for my education and years experience in the computer industry. Instead of doing a really thorough look at my pc's I assumed the crash problem was with the game. I just discovered Zango on three of my Alienware hard drives and on my laptop. My son is home from college and did not bring his computer home. So I let him use mine. He decided earlier this summer to install Zango so he could watch certain video content. I have removed, with much trouble, Zango. WW2:TOW now works flawlessly.

Sorry for the accusation guys.

Best news is that you have managed to play the game.
