The revenge of the 5cm PAk 38

Post by Rift »

This 5cm PAK 38 of the 795th Ost / 709th Inf Dev during 2 days of heavy fighting at St Marie du Mont map caused massive casulties to 506th RGT / 101st AB, finally resulting in the entire destruction of the Allied BG (the one tank is a Stuart, thats gun was knocked out straight away with a lucky shot).

The 5cm Pak and the 56mm AT guns may not always be the most effective against tanks but they can hurt infantry.

Looks like he's evening up the score a bit... have you changed tactics with your AT guns?

No change in tactics. I personally think that the small AT guns(5cm, 7.6cm (russian) and the 56mm/6pdr)are excellent anti infantry (better than an mg in some cases), but the reason for this is that they can be placed in houses so artillery and mortars have very little chance of damaging them. (I'll see if I can get a screen shot of the house that this particular gun was in, I wouldn't have want to be the owner, what a mess [;)]).

But if you place these guns outside they face the same problems as the bigger guns (7.5cm and 8.8cms), very short life expectance due to death by mortar.

If the mortars effectivenesss against AT was reduced I would love to see the 7.5cm German field gun do some serioes infantry damage.

Does anyone know, will the Airborne light howitzer be introduced or has that gone for ever, that gun was so much fun in the original CC5 [:)]?

Keep up the great work!

Hi Feurer Krieg,

No sadly not HvH, none of my guns in HvH fare as well [;)]

As soon as the tanks appear they suffer heavily or mortars/arty clear them out.[:(]
