How do you send excess pilots back to the pool?

Is there a way to deal with excess pilots in airgroups? IE: Send some back to the pool.

Once they are there, they are there.

Now, one trick you can use is to add extra aircraft, transfer the group with some damaged aircraft still in one place.
Then disband the fragment.
Planes and pilots in the fragment will go to the pool.
Of course there can be no other units of the same type in the hex.[;)]

Yes, just like in early WITP I am finding some of my units have 20-30 extra pilots. They sorted it out in WITP and will sort it out in AE.

Halsey's trick works just fine as a quick fix.

But are they going to go to the reserve pool which means that they will be still attach to the same group they where in before disband?

Halsey,

I am trying your training routine and its working with a couple of things I noticed.

Allies: you cannot place Indian, US, Aus, Canada or China on 100% train they will not do anything. You can place NZ, Indian and British on 100% though strange at best.

you must have double supply at base to train up (not orange/red)

you do not need full complement of planes and can pull over rated amount for pilots.

Anything I have missed? [:D]

PS how long does it take to get to reasonable standards and what are best to train up to numbers? 60 or more?

I have been able to train all forces to some extent using 100% train. Try adjusting the altitude and the specific task they are training on and you will start to see the green appear on the pilot screen where they are training up. I have not had any success so far with the specific training groups in the US but still working on that.

Keep playing around with base trainining locations.

Some on the West Coast are worthless.

Best to use bases with 250+ air support.
HQ's, and loads of supplies.[;)]

Skills should go to 70 or so.[;)]

6000+' for normal mission types.

100' for low naval and straffing skills.

After I train a unit in a specific skill, ie; air skill for fighters.
I set them to general training.
Altitude also applies to general training.[;)]

Also a note for people who only look at the "average experience" number when training.

I had three fighter units at full strength (25) training for "escort" for ten days. I was mumbling to myself as I noted that the experince numbers started in the mid 30s and were still there ten days later. When I opened up the pilot screen and looked I discovered that "air" skill was over 40 for everybody and some of them were in the 70's. Now "NavT" was often in single digits for them but very few P40 pilots will need that particular skill

Lesson is that "average experience" is virtually useless as soon as you start single-skill training

That's a fact...

Go to the pilot screen to see the "real" results of your training.[;)]
