Problem with my serial number -- Error 255

Post by TigerTC »

I bought and downloaded TOW last night but haven't been able to play.

Every time I try to run the game I get an Error 255: "There is a problem with your serial number."

I've only got one serial number -- the one posted on the digitalriver site that was also emailed to me. I have repeatedly reinstalled and re-entered the serial number, both manually and by pasting, but to no avail. I also tried to enter the number without dashes but the game wouldn't accept it.

Has anyone had this problem???

And I've tried both with and without the 1.50 Hotfix.

Please attach a Dxdiag file to a post here.

But you should also try turning off your anti-virus software, and installing it with it off.

DXDIAG attached.

I ran the demo successfully before.

The demo has been uninstalled. I've reinstalled with Antivirus off. I've changed both the Autorun and the WW2.exe programs to run as administrators and in compatibility mode as Windows 98/ME. (I have Vista.)

I no longer get the serial number error, but after running WW2.exe, the screen goes blank, then I CTD after a few seconds.

Thanks for the DxDiag. First suggestion - update your video and audio drivers. Second suggestion is that I see you have Tunebite installed. There's a known issue with that software. Can you try either temporarily uninstalling Tunebite or telling it to not interfere with WW2 TOW?

No joy.

I successfully ran the demo many times.

I've uninstalled Tunebite and updated my video driver. Not sure what else, if anything, I should update.

I still get the CTD when trying to launch the game. [&:]

Maybe it is related with intro videos. Someone else already had such problem. First of all check content of ConsoleOut.txt (or paste it here), also check this thread: tm.asp?m=2175859 and rename video files as we suggested there.
