Would you purchase/order the manual separately?

Post by Templer_12 »

Not my problem. I own War in the Pacific: Admiral's Edition - Physical + Digital.

But most of us don´t like reading PDF via screen or printed.

Question: Would you purchase/order the hard copy manual book for your digital download separately via Matrixgames?

In the case of WitP:AE I would.

If yes, Matrix Games should think about it.

maybe in my younger days when my eyesight was a heck of a lot better than it is now. I had Staples print me a 8.5x11 full size version of the pdf file and that works just fine for me (and my eyes). I've seen a few comments regarding the size of the manual and the small print.

I regret not ordering the manual now. Didn't realise just how much had changed and just how much I'd be referring to the pdf version. A text only version of the manual to print off would be a nice idea - small print doesn't bother me but 300 pages of manual would certainly worry my printer!

I would love to see digital download + printed manual. I don't care about game boxes or CDs. Like you I don't like reading from the screen. Specially when we're talking about 300+ pages long manual. Another reason for printed manual is that you can check things from it while you play. No ALT-TABs...

So... Please Matrix think about bindle manuals + digital copy of games. Perfect match!

I´m very happy I own a hard copy because I love to read in bed with a glas wine or a pot tea beside.

But I don´t tought about tired eyes.
I still find it hard to accustom myself there are people loving this game and aren´t teenager anymore.
It´s fascinating.

How about reading the letters on the gamescreen? I find them sometimes hard to read.

Why not just order the download + box and chuck everything but the manual if that's all you want?

That´s true. Often there are changes in the gameplay or new features added und you will not find it in the manual you spend money for. That´s a good point I think.

I agree about a text only version. The best if there would be a way to format the letters in size for older eyes.

Maybe I only loaded the digi version and I suddenly decide I also want the hard copy of the manual also in hope I could save some money by ordering the hard copy alone?

And so maybe it´s not the worst idea offering a small stock of manual in the merchendise sektion.

I don´t now - shipping books to foreign country - don´t you get a better tax?

I think Templer did what I did: balked at the extra $20 for the hard goods, then wished he'd done it when he went to the can and wished he could read the manual.

I ended up getting it printed at the local print shop. For $20. Anyway, it's 8.5x11, Black and White, but it's easy on my older eyes.

I have the manual, but I can foresee a day where I might need a replacement. I'm hauling it to and from work (read on the bus) in my backpack together with a small umbrella, my lunch, a writing portfolio, my cell phone, a novel, a crossword puzzle magazine . . . I put a large metal friction clip on it to hold the page side closed, but it's already a little bent at one corner. And eventually I think the binding will break.

I understand the marketing behind making the manual an exclusive part of the collector's edition, but perhaps, in six months or a year when the mania dies down, there could be a replacement manual in the merchandise mix.

Even if I hadn't gotten the physical I'd have bought the hard copy manual. As you pointed out I hate trying to read .pdf files, so paying for a hard copy manual would be worth the investment IMO.

Getting both the digital and boxed version with that sweet manual is really the way to go.. (I did).. if you try to print that .pdf at Fedex/Kinko's even in black and white it costs more just to print it than to order the "full meal deal"

I ordered the download plus physical copy. They could have omittied the box and used the money to print up a map and nice reference cards.

I do use the .pdf for reading on my laptop.

Erik,

In my "haste" to get the order completed on day 1, I only did the digital download. Is there anyway to get the manual without having to pay again?

There's no current way for us to do this, but I'll discuss it again with DR to see if something has become possible since the last time we brought it up.

As item in the merchendies area - sound like an idea.

someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe Matrixgames has a [any?] history of updating manuals once a game is released? Update files/release notes sure, but not manuals...

p.s. I had my AE manual printed up (with ring binding) at Staples a couple weeks back for $20

These days I tend to keep all my .pdf game manuals on a Sony PRS-505 ebook reader, and don't miss printed ones at all. Very handy. [:)]
