Ki-44 Tojo production questions

I noticed that tojo has no starting factories researching this A/C.
Which factories (if any) upgrade to Ki-44 Tojo in 9/42?
What are the difference between Ki-44 Tojo and Ki-44 Tojo IIa? Both arrives in 9/42, the second seems definitely better. Why are there 2 different version of the same A/C with the same arrival date???

Actually, I've just learned that the second "Oscar" 0(8) factory at Maebashi is supposed to start as a tojo ii-a (researching) factory, this will be fixed in patch 01.

Will that be a retrofit onto existing games or do we just need to work around it?

Good question, "device" changes will retro fit, however base changes will not. So I think this is a "base" change, since slot 18 in the Maebashi base points to 2761 Oscar, and it will be changing to 2769 Tojo IIa (I think). So probably this one will not "retrofit" ... in my current game against the Aussies, I expanded this "Oscar" factory, but have not yet seen any of my factory points repair. At least I hope there is nothing wrong with this slot that will prevent the factory from repairing. I do not see anything in the manual that says that "slots over such and such cannnot be used for non-R&D types, so I assume I have just had "bad die rolls". I'll let you know if this clears up. At least we want to be able to use this "factory" for something. And being able to use it to build current planes is not a bad trade off for losing it to the R&D ranks.

There is only a non-productive B5N2 Factory. The B5N1 had been out of production for ~4 years, and the B5N2 was also out of production, and did not resume until April of 1942. Just be happy you have a choice of restarting it early in game. [;)]

I'm actually seeing Tojos over the Philipines in 12/41. I had just assumed they were some early versions that I had been previously unaware of as existing......

Yes they were also in WITP. One air unit (9 a/c) equipped with early version of the Ki-44. They're based in Canton, maybe they were transferred in PI...
