Question about Finland

Post by micheljq »

Hello,

I see that USSR attacks and conquiers Finland in a lof of games in 1939-40. What can Germany do in such an event, can Germany send troops to help Finland even if not at war with USSR? Or can Germany send an indirect help? Like sending supplies or build points to prevent Finland from falling?

Germany needs Finland in his side when comes Barbarossa.

Historically, I think that Finland was not conquered but had to cede some territories to USSR only. And the soviets did very poorly against the finns, the world was laughing at the the red army after the finnish war.

Taking Finland is a major operation for the Red Army. The AI has a very hard time doing it. I recently played a game defending Finland, and caused immense losses to the Soviets, and easily survived to aid the Germans against Leningrad.

In my AAR "Stavka Staff Notes" you will see that the campaign against Finland was tough. If you wish to make it even tougher you could set Finland to "Easy" or "Very Easy", but I think it is about right.

Or, if you wanted to, the Germans could declare war during the Winter War, but, no, the Germans cannot send troops while "neutral". They could send PP convoys if this is within house rules.

Not disputing your points but in my experience Germany can do quite fine without Finland as well.

What? Do you mean that you can set a particular country to a particular level regardless of the others, for example Turkey to easy and Finland to very tough? Also you must mean set Finland to "tough" or "tougher" so it's more difficult to crack?

Thank you.

Probably but for USSR it's a benediction because they will not have to defend Murmansk and the deep north and the Finns can help the germans take Leningrad a lot. I don't say Germany cannot do fine without them but it certainly has an impact on Barbarossa. USSR won't have to divert troops to the far north.

This is right.
You can set difficulty level for every country separatley.
If you set Finland to Very Easy, it means that the game will be easier for Finland as they will receive more Production Points.
