The One Career-League Record to Beat

Post by KG Erwin »

Has anyone ever beaten Casey Stengel's record of 5 straight World Series wins (1949-1953) ?

You know this leads me to what could be a cool idea.

"PureSim Achievements"

Assuming I get the appropriate anti-cheat mechanisms in there it would be cool to have achievements like this and others. In addition there could be a page on the web site / viewable in game that listed achievements by users.

I have really been wracking my brain around ways to introduce social aspects into the game, maybe this is a good first start?

What do you guys think, is this something you'd care about?

I frankly have no idea on the types of accomplishments to be included, other than breaking existing MLB records. However, this, to my mind, should EXCLUDE completely fictional leagues.

For historical leagues, the self-reporting method seems to be the only way to go, as I really don't think anyone would lie about it. IF a particular stat was contested, then proof should be provided.

Maybe we should start with simple things like best team W-L record or consecutive pennants/WS wins. Individual records should perhaps be left alone, as we all play under our own ground rules.

Personally, I'd love to see more guys write about their associations. I've adopted a fairly dry style in game reporting, with an occasional bit of artistic license in describing the players/managers/associates as living in my alternate history.

I've had 9 consecutive world series appearances; 5 wins; currently working on 3 in a row.  I use historical players, but I did an initial dispersement draft to begin, so players have no ties to their historical teams.  I started in 1930, and I expanded by 4 teams in '38.

I think this achievement thing would be cool but tough to make fair.  With different association sizes and settings etc it could create way different results...
