Overland transport question

Post by fthein »

Hi

i have a question regarding overland transport. Lets say i want transport resources via ship from Hokkaido to mainland Japan. Is it enough to unload at Ominato and the resources will then be send by rail to the southern industry centers automatic. Or must i unload in Tokyo or the other big centers manualy?

The AI will transport resources/oil/fuel/supply around based on it's perceved need. In WitP it was every third day. Not sure how often in AE. Just get the resources to the Home Islands and the AI will move it around. The manual says it will move stuff from one island to another if two ports are in adjacent hexes (at the rate of the smaller port). I don't trust the AI to be that smart though. [;)] I dump the stuff on the specific island I want it to go, to be safe. From there it'll get to where it's needed.

Yeah, but it's not that much. 500 points per port level. Peanuts in terms of the resources we're schlepping around.

Ahh, thanks erstad.  I don't rely on port to port movement anyway.  You just clinched it. [:D]

And thats only resources. Fuel and oil are moved in much smaller quantities.

Unfortunately the rule about port transfer limits of resources (500x smaller port size, 100x for oil) doesn't seem to work. I ran a test a few days ago and totalled the resources on Hokkaido, Shikoku, and Kyushu and ran about 6 days with no other activity (dropping, moving of resources/oil into the hi). On a couple of turns I had massive amounts of resource movement off from Kyushu and Hokkaido (like 100,000 one turn off Hokkaido when its excess production is about 30,000/day and the port limits is something like 2,500/day between). I don't have the numbers in front of me right now but try it and you'll see. What effect this has I don't know yet...but it means my little coastal convoys I set up in my last (now restarted after Mar 1, 42) PBEM were maybe pointless?

I just want to make sure that Oil in inland bases will make it's way to the coase for transport. While doing research for the mod I'm working on, I've found references to oilfields inland on Sumatra. If it won't move, then I need to rethink these mods.

I ususally have my destinations be. Sasebo for Kyushu, Tokyo and Osaka for Honshu, and Maybe once in a while if needed will send some up to Hokkaido but that is on a by need basis. that way I don't rely on the ports. Never have shipped to Shikoku? For the life of me I can't think of the "S" island right now. lol

Shikoku is the 'S' Island. I don't have the game at the moment but I believe the ports there are Matsuyama and Tokushima maybe?

If that is repeatable, and you have "before" and "after" saves, please post them in the support forum because that would be a bug.
