Print screen question

Post by hbrsvl »

Hi-I seem to recall a post on this, but can't find it. If there was, someone please reply with a link.

If not, how do you print a screen then attach it to either a post or an email?

Thanks, Hugh Browne

Hi Hugh,

you need to find a graphics programme to 'paste' the print screen into. I use Gimp which is an opensource one which is free to download. You could use Photoshop or even Paint if you have them on your computer.

I open Gimp and create a blank template of the right screen size and then 'paste' into it. Then save as a .jpg.

You can then attach this to e-mails or if you want to use it within posts, upload it to an imagehosting site (I use imageshack.us which is free) and then put the direct link to the image within the img tags.

Code: Select all

 [img]www.linktomypic.jpg[/img]
.

Hope that's clear enough to get you started.

If you want to use pic in post, you don't even need to use image hosting sites, you can just upload it to Matrix server. This is done by using "Embed picture into post" and uploading jpg/gif picture with "Click here to upload". You have to use "Post Reply" instead of "Fast Reply" for that to functionality being available, though.

You can also open microsoft excel if you have it, and paste the print screen onto there. (control+ V). This has several advantages. First, the image will "lay" over the top of the worksheet page. That means that you can grab the image and shrink or resize it easily. Second, you can use the page set up and print features of excel to fit the image to one page before printing. Third, if you have multiple images, you can quickly paste one to each sheet in the excel workbook and come back to work with them later.
