Restricted Commands

Post by The Gnome »

Getting frustrated, so forgive me if this comes off as more terse than it should.

I want to move a unit under the Asiatic Fleet, presumably a restricted command. There is no (R) next to the unit name, so I'm starting off a little confused. Before switching HQ's I decide to form a transport TF containing 3 xAP's and two escorts.

I select "load troops" 3 squadrons of planes show up. Fine. It is actually a restricted command unit, but for some mysterious reason the (R) is not showing.

The unit is valuable enough that I decide to spend some precious PP and switch the command to Pacific Fleet. This to me seems like the obvious route. I return to my transport TF and select load troops. The same 3 patrol planes are in the list, but there is no sign of the unit I want moved.

I decide to double check the HQ switch was successful and indeed it had switched its HQ to PacFleet.

I'm lost, what could possibly be wrong?

1st, in the current build units assigned to Asiatic Fleet are NOT restricted although Asiatic Fleet HQ itself is.

2nd, Is the unit in strategic mode?

AFAIK Asiatic Fleet is under the restricted USAFEE command, but is not restricted itself. So you don't need to spend PPs here.
If you gained knowledge through the forum, why not putting it into the AE wiki?

Thanks for the reply. Ok it was not in strategic move, I take it from your question that is a requirement?

This game is awesome, but if I may make a suggestion to improve the UI in the future: As, much as possible let the user know on screen why something can't be done.

In code there is enough data already to limit the list. So instead of limiting it, show everything, but show unloadable units as "grayed out" or remove the select button. Then show, either as mouseover text or a column, the reason the unit can't be loaded (ie "Restricted Command", "Not in Strat Move Mode", "Raining in Peoria").

Just an idea.

Gnome,
If your TF is a TRANSPORT TF the unit needs to be in strategic mode. It should have had a message at the bottom of the screen saying this.

If your TF is an AMPHIBIOUS TF the unit needs to be in COMBAT mode.

Such a good idea that it's already in the 1st patch [8D] - well being greyed out and saying 'not in strategic mode' is in. AFIAK rain doesn't stop loading [;)]
