Newbie with tech prob Pacwar

Post by airborne »

I`ve never tried this as computer stuff confuses me.Not sure if I even know how to do this.My problem is that my GameSaves for Pacwar(all saves)lock me out after playing for days w/o any problem at all, then....LOCKOUT!If reply is technical,I`ll ask my son to read it as I don`t understand computer stuff.My son said to write you guys for help and he can then fix. Though less important, cannot access individual air units on carriers at all, though I could in original.If i am violating any protocols or etiquettes, I apologize, as I have never attempted to contact anybody before. Am solitaire gamer and social "hermit".Thanks for any help.----Terry Dotson ("Airborne")

Welcome airborne

I have never encountered this problem before, but what are the specifications for your computer? Also what operating system are you running?

Which version of Pac War are you using?

There is a specific forum for Pac War that has a lot of experienced people who can probably help you out.

You might also post your question there along with the information I asked for above.

Good luck and welcome to Matrix.

If you really like pac war you should take a look at Uncommon Valor Campaign for the South Pacific. This game just went Gold and should be available for sale here at Matrix within a couple of weeks.

Airborne: Don't know anything about PACWAR but I suggest you go down a little further on this page and go to "Forum Jump" and select Pacwar forum, resubmit your question. In my opinion you'll get your answers there and maybe faster.....good luck guy:) :cool:

Possable Fix

Post by tanjman »

Airborne,

The save game problem I'm not sure about but it may be related to you not being able to access your carrier (USN right?) air groups. This is caused by insuficent memory, you need at least 595KB of free conventional memory (if I remember correctly). You can check how much you have at the DOS prompt by typing mem/c. If you're runing Win95/98 (I'm not familiar with the latest versions of windows) you might want to try using a boot disk. This is what I had to do to fix the memory problem on my PC.

My config.sys

DOS=HIGH,UMB
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\Himem.sys
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE AUTO RAM MIN=0
FILESHIGH=40
BUFFERSHIGH=40
LASTDRIVEHIGH=D

My autoexec.bat

SET SNDSCAPE=C:\WINDOWS
SET BLASTER=A220 I7 D1 T2
LH C:\SBAPC64V\apinit.com
SET PROMPT=$P$G
REM MOUSEDRIVER, REMOVE IF NOT NEEDED
Path A:\
LH C:\MSINPUT\MOUSE.EXE /Q

You're autoexec.bat will probably use different mouse and video drivers, you really don't need the sound card drivers, I need them for another game (carrier strike). I Hope this fixes your problem, if not let me know and we can try something else. :)
