Mongols - Conquest of XiXia and Fall of Zhongdu

Post by AttuWatcher »

Hi all,
I've begin work on a mod/scenario simulating the initial Mongol conquests after Temujin / Jinghiz Khan united the disparate tribes around 1206.

Features include:
3 Regimes: Mongols, Western Xia, Jin Dynasty. (3 player: Mongols vs. Xia & Jin)
60x80 map (not finalized)
New/modified map/art
Period covered 1209-1215 - Culminating with fall of Zhongdu (Beijing)
As much historical detail as I can include.
Special logistics rules for Mongols. (I hope)
Special recruitment rules/events for Mongols. (I hope)
AI for Chinese sides. (I hope)
As many simple events as I can for historical flair.
Tons of horses!
Gers! (yurts)

Geographic area of scenario:

I hope to be done in a few months...[;)]

Sounds great i know the mongols used lots of cavalry did the chinese??? my knowledge of this era is almost nil
The battle of Medjerda is almost forgotten, but was fought against highly disciplined German troops and blasted a route straight to Tunis it was a perfect infiltration battle and should be remembered as the best fought British battle of the war.

Much of the peoples in and around modern day Mongolia and northern China had a strong horse culture. This tends to dissolve as you go further south and the landscape changes from wide plains and steppes to heavy forest, river valleys, and mountains.

Detailed info about the XiXia and Jin armies is one thing I'm in need of but I've have found some good info about them from Mongol sources.

I have read that Jin Dynasty horse armies were comparable to Mongolians in many ways but the Mongolian tactics and adaptability is what set them apart. A key componant of the Mongol adaptability is to simulate their unique supply methods. I hope I can do that.
