Save file fails to load.

Post by iley »

About 10 days into a play by Mail game I am unable to load the save file I'm sent. The response I get is unable to load file. The only possible problem area I see is that my opponent did update his version of the game after we started. Any suggestions?

Thank you:

Thank you for your response:

I should have included that this is after repeated attempts to redo the move.

Every time this has happened to me, I downloaded the turn again and that fixed the problem.

Had a similart issue. The secret may be that the Japanese player has to update and play the old game turn, then the Allied player has to upgrade and play the turn that has already been played by the Japanese (1st) player. That fixed the problem I had with upgrading to the Beta patch anyway.

Ensure you both have upgraded properly.

If the Japanese player has upgraded to 1083, then the save is in a slightly different format that the earlier release can't read.
The Allied player needs to be running 1083 to read the save.
However, he may want to use the older version to do the replay first (otherwise sync issues), and then do the upgrade.

A handy hint:
If you want to keep both versions of AE executable (as in playing patched and unpatched games), copy the old EXE file before upgrading.

Then use the copy to play unpatched games, and the proper EXE to play patched games.
