Some info about the campaigns please

Conquest! Medieval Realms, developed by Illustrious Software, is a turn-based game that combines the pure strategic gameplay of Chess and the key principles of military strategy in a historical setting. The objective is to conquer up to 7 opposing AI or human players by defeating their armies and capturing their lands. To gain supremacy, players will need to unite their spread out lands, build a roaring economy, and raise powerful armies to divide and conquer their enemies. Boost your income via markets and mines, upgrade your armies with stables and archery fields, or amass a large force, but sound strategy and careful thought will help you more than brute force.

Some info about the campaigns please

Post by hondo1375 »

Hi, I'm think about purchasing this game after playing the demo, but I wanted to find out about the campaigns first. I assume they are a set of battles. Are the battles linear, or do they branch, i.e. defeat takes you in one direction, victory another? Is something from the previous battles carried forward to the next? Thanks!

Two campaigns - War of the Roses and Hundred Years War.

Each offer a series of scenarios - more like operational puzzles which need to be won in order to move to the next. Failure picks up at the scenario most recently lost.

The scenarios introduce some interesting victory concepts to the usual percentage territorial occupation win method - such as; the need to destroy certain enemy units and hold certain hex locations.

The scenarios have an historical flavor and offer a way to extend gameplay.

However, I find that my time is more found in the random Skirmish play.

My original estimate of the game for me seems right. 1 week at most of regular gameplay with the knowledge that there is a nice dieversion on the PC thereafter, if ever a filler game session is needed.

This game is cheap, solid, good for a romp against a reasonable AI and deserves to be bought if just for that.

Hope this helps,
Adam.

Hi Hondo, I saw the issues you're having with Blue Screens from the demo. I can only suggest this is happenening because it is old or corrupt code?

The Matrix version is very light in terms of disc space and fires up extremely quickly.

Thanks to your query I just loaded the game up for the first time in a week and had my best game ever.

I initiated an 8 player Skirmish. The random map gave me a great defensive area in the west and I quickly built up level 3 infantry and gunners. I was doing so well but made the mistake of over-extending financially by just 1 and all my units disbanded! This opened the way for no less than 4 AI players to make in-roads into my territory. I quickly built a level 3 gunner to stabilize things against the AI's level 2 and 3 infantry and what did the blue AI do? It came at me with a level 3 knight!

This AI sure knows the rock-paper-scissors aspect of this game. I lost!
