Fuel & supply @ West coast US

Post by hbrsvl »

Hi-I think this applies to all scenarios.

How do bases on WC get more fuel & supply points? When starting out at beginning of scenarios, there is XXX fuel & YYY supply at SFO, Diego, Seattle, etc.

The whole Pacific region begs for fuel and supply. If I load up TK, AO, AK, etc., do I run the risk of running out of these in the immediate future at these ports?

I guess I'm asking, what is the mechanism to ascertain how much is going to show up when at these ports?

Thanks, Hugh Browne

The EC seems to have a lot and I am hauling supply from there via the canal to where it is needed. I suspect if one lowers the levels too much on the WC, some will move from the EC by magic but I havent pushed the system yet to see if that happens. I only use the supply available in the WC to ensure loaded troops have their needed supplies. I take all the xAK's that arrive in Panama, send them to EC, load and then send them to Balboa and from there to where they are needed. My opponent likes to post a sub where the ships exit so now I have ASW there as well. This is primarily a logistics game now.

No need to haul from the East Coast - it "trickles" to the West Coast.

Indeed, supply and gets moved overland to the WC. You can use the EC to load up you ships, but the trip through Panama seems a fair bit longer then straight from the WC.

Can you increase the demand for supply at the WC ports and they will then draw more from the EC?  I've drained San Francisco down to under 50k supplies with my convoys to Pearl and SoPac, and LA and San Diego aren't in any better shape.  Fuel doesn't appear to be a problem but supplies definitely are.

Just draw more from SF - the program automatically assigns more to the base when it reaches a certain lower level.

What is the level? Under 50k in San Fran and 999,999 in EC seems to be the norm in my PBEM. I started shipping from Panama.

Learned a good trick that takes a little playing with over several turns to get working properly. Eastern USA builds up a huge stockpile after several weeks of playing and you load your first few convoys. While waiting for next you need to pick a couple bases down rail for Eastern US to MAX supplies (buttons)
These will max out next turn. The next turn pick two more working closer to your West Coast Ports. They will max out. and so on and so on until you get almost every base to 50k+ in supplies. Then drain SF (which rarely happens now) you can just empty the next one over to minimum and SF gets a quick boost.

Takes a little playing trying to get it just right but several weeks and everyone should be bursting with supplies. SF,LA etc all well over 100k+ now for me.

What is the level? Under 50k in San Fran and 999,999 in EC seems to be the norm in my PBEM. I started shipping from Panama.

I never had any problem after mid-Jan. Fuel piles up in LA well beyond my ability to move it; usually it stays above 900,000 except just after I load a tanker convoy (about 65,000 capacity).

I set SF to max supply, and LA and San Diego to seek about 50,000. When I am ready to load a convoy there are usually about 295,000 waiting. Since I aim for about 100k per convoy, it rarely drops below 100,000; when it does I let the ships rest for a few days that that gets it back up above 200,000.

I was running supply convoys from EC to Capetown for a while but I never had any need to run any to the WC.

Now a caveat to all of that is I did lose too many merchies in the first three months so that does reduce my ability to move multi-megaton convoys [:D]. OTOH by early Jun42 I had built Noumea, Fiji and Pago Pago up to 300k+ of fuel and supply while keeping PH above 500k and NZ and eastern OZ comfortable. During that buildup I kept the USN deployed defensively protecting the OZ supply line so I did not use a great deal of fuel.

So the bottom line is I had no problem moving as much supply as I needed from EC to WC using "osmosis".

pompack-How do you "set" SFO (or anywhere) to max supply?Somehow I've missed this.

On the left of the Base Screen, right next to the "supplies required" line, there are two buttons just to the right. The first increased the "Supplies required" by 1000 and the second increases it to the maximum possible. Once you activate either, two new buttons appear; these decrease the "supplies required" value by 1000 an decrease it to the base value that you started with. Play with the buttons; there is no lasting effect since you can always restore the original value.

On the example here I have already increased the value by 1000 so all four buttons are visable and there is a little "+" after the "supplies required" value to indicate that it has been modified
