System Freeze Causing Windows Setting Change

Post by Adam Parker »

I was just playing the 3rd battle in the German 1941 campaign.

In the north there was a town with a Russian flak unit nearby.

On selecting one of my assault infantry units that had just fired to move, it highlighted the flak unit's hex as a legal hex to move into suggesting a bug.

I clicked the hex, (not being able to see the flak unit intially the graphics are so hard to discern) and my screen completely froze. Alt+Tab and CTRL+AL+DEL would not work. My mouse disappeared. The only way out was a hard system reset.

On the PC firing up, my Taskbar had been deactivated and my Notification Area had been reset to always on.

FYI as I'm not sure if this is graphics related or code related - likely the latter I feel as an invalid hex was permitted for movement. First time I've come across this in 10 plays.

I'm gonna take this off my hard drive until things settle by other people proving the game.

Ouch. A crash that hard usually means that hardware was involved. I also don't see how the game could have changed any of your system settings. I haven't had a crash in Operation Barbarossa in a long time, but you definitely seem to be having some issues!

Can you post a DxDiag file for us please?

Also, don't delete your installation yet, one of the developers may ask for a save or dump file to help us find out what happened.

Sorry Erik, I uninstalled already. All's ok with the system now, don't worry - it's trivial [:)]

To everyone in the US have a peaceful day on this always emotional anniversary. God bless.

Hi Adam,

If you used the game uninstaller there should still be some files in the game folder.  If you could attach the CEGUI.log file and the Ogre.log file from the data folder, that would be helpful.  And the auto save should be in the data\save folder.

Thanks,

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

Sorry - I wiped everything.

The only thing that I can offer is that I think this was code related, as the system let me select an illegal hex to move into (on this occasion occupied by that enemy flak unit).

Adam.
