Cannot Unload

Post by davbaker »

Having problems unloading all of an Amphibious Task Force.

Baker Island (0) , Amphibious xAK / xAP TF.
Raider Bn & a Marine Reg. onboard.

All the troops unload but the heavy support equipment stays onboard and the 'unloading ' goes orange when you look at the TF.

Whats the problem?

- TF Composition - Only AP/AK and/or APA/AKA can fully onload heavy equipment?

- Baker Island too small?

- Simply cannot unload heavy equipment via Amphibious in (0) port?

Thanks

There is some equipment on board that is heavier than what can be moved over the beach at a level 0 port.

I would expect it is in the Marine regiment. The Raider Btn shouldn't have any heavy equipment.

Thanks for the quick response Bill.

How do I find the various limits for level (0) port then relate it to various units so I can work out what can go across the beach.

I know there are various equipment types:
Light <4
Medium 5-8
Heavy >9

But have no clue how this relates to what you can unload at various size ports (is there a table) or how to tell if a unit has Light / Medium / Heavy equipment attached (editor?).

I asked that same question earlier (what equipment falls into the 'too big to unload at a small port'?) and got no answer. Based on my early war experience, it appears that the "too big to unload" items include large artillery pieces, support and engineering vehicles, sound detectors, radars and CD guns.

I'm currently trying to unload an EAB onto Wallace Island, and while the engineers and some of the vehicles have offloaded, there's 3 ships' worth of vehicles still waiting their turn (at a level 1 port). I've also got a naval support unit unloading and have given them priority to help with unloading everyone else. At Portland Roads (0 Port) the sound detector and observers refused to unload, so I hauled them down to Cooktown and will unload them there. When the base develops a level 1 port I'll bring them up there in a small xAKL and unload them then.

I've had the "Cannot Unload" happen at Noumea early on in 42 when trying to unload a large INF unit with an undocked TF.

Maybe you have to be "docked" to unload heavy equipment?

Having Naval support will make unloading quicker , but still wont let you dock if port is (0) or the TF/Ship size too large for the port.

So that still leaves a few questions:

1. How do you unload the heavy equipment of an ENG unit at Port Lvl (0) base, to allow you to increase the port lvl to be able to unload heavy equipment. Catch 22.

2. How do you fully unload a division across the beach with an Amphibious TF? Did the Marines at Lunga leave all their heavy equipment aboard?

You first land Naval Support.

Nothing landed over the beach than was too large to be carried in a small landing craft. Once again, naval support. It simulates port operating folks with various lighters.

Ok, thanks, that makes sense.

Does the amount of naval support affect the maximum load cost that can be handled by the location?

i.e. Does just having 10 Naval support allow anything to unload
or
Do you need >50 Naval Support for example to unload the heavier stuff.

Or is it a combination of Naval Support + Port Size = Cargo rate being over a certain level.

e.g. Taking "500" cargo Handling rate as the magic number to enable heavy equipment unload

Port (0) + 50 Naval = 500
Port (1) + 40 Naval = 500
Port (2) + 30 Naval = 500 etc.

Naval support is worth about 10 load points per squad. Ports have a different number. Not too sure of either off hand, but it's in the manual.

Troop = 250 + (75 * Port)
Cargo = 100 * Port Size

Naval Support adds 10 Points to the Troop & Cargo rate for Each Naval Support Squad

Troop Rate Used for Troop + Light Equipment (<4 ?)

Cargo Rate used for Equipment (>4 ?) and also Troops

So, does the calculated Cargo rate have to be over a certain figure to allow heavy Equipment to unload?
