AI air sortie count

For the last 10 game days, a large group of Jap carriers have first sat on Makassar, waiting for the invasion troops to take the place - all the while bombing the snot out of everything in sight. The this same group moved south of Java near Soerbaja spending several days taking out all ships in the port, as well as severely damaging the airfield and port. Now, it has moved west towards Batavia and started to do the same there. As this continued, I began to wonder just how many sorties they had. I saved my game and switched sided just to see how many sorties this group of carriers had left. It showed they had 89% left, this was right after sending 100 planes against Batavia. So is this a problem or did I miss something? (I installed the patch in the middle of this Jap AI carrier run.)
