WW2:TOW vs Cdr EaW

Commander – Europe at War Gold is the first in a series of high level turn based strategy games. The first game spans WW2, allowing players to control the axis or allied forces through the entire war in the European Theatre.

WW2:TOW vs Cdr EaW

Post by Akmatov »

I've just been bitten by the 'how about conquering Europe this month bug' and am excited to find I actually have a choice between two games that both look pretty good. I'd like to ask a couple of questions to help my selection:

1) Do Commander have a radius of influence or do they only affect the unit to which they are attached?

2) I'm very pleased to see that the game can extend beyond 1945. However, I'm wondering if there is any way to convert to a Western Allies vs. Soviet Union war? This has always fascinated me and it would be very interesting if it was possible. I'd even be willing to get into modding a save game to enable such a scenario.

3) I assume that the R&D in a post-1945 game continues?

4) Another of my fantasy scenarios would be for the US to not enter the European war, as could have happened. Is this a possibility in the vanilla game or could it be 'modded'?

5) I think I saw something abuot 'strategic bombing', could someone please touch on that a bit?

I'll be exploring the demo tonight, but the above might not be clear from the demo. Thanks for any info.

Popped over here from the ToW forum

Both are good games CEaW is simpler (but not at all simplistic) and quicker (20 day turns) to play whilst ToW has more detail and takes longer (1 week turns) but is still pretty easy to play particularaly if you are used to board wargames.

As to your questions

1. Radius of (I think) 4 hexes for command bonus but unit attachment for combat bonuses

2. No its two sides only Allies vs Axis

3. I think so (I generally only play to 45) but there are limits to tech levels though you will still be able to produce jets etc.

4. No it is pretty much along historical timelines, don't know about the modding of this.

5. You can use strat bombers against any industrial/resource hex in range - this can be (auto) intercepted by enemy fighters in range which in turn can be (auto) intercepted by your fighters.

Hope this helps

You'll probably find that the ToW forum is more active because it is a newer game, however have a look at the Slitherine (the developers) site Commander - Europe at War Forum http://www.slitherine.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=18 which is a lot more active

Ok this explains some things also

In question 4 can this be modded in ToW? For example can Russia NOT attack Germany in 1941?
