allied conversions

Post by Mistmatz »

Is there any good reason _not_ to convert (x)AKs that can convert to AG or even something better (AE or AKE)?
They do loose some cargo space but thats about 20-30% it seems and they are easy to convert, just 2 weeks in a port and they are finished.

Another question would be if it is neccessary (under normal circumstances) to convert (x)AK to (x)AP? In WitP more vessels unloaded more troops per turn but with the new unload mechanism I dont see an advantage for invasions. Loading troops in a big port may be quicker but is there any other advantage?
If you gained knowledge through the forum, why not putting it into the AE wiki?

Do it...

After the first standard upgrade, you'll lose the ability to change ship classes for the merchant ship types.[;)]

If I am not reading rules in a wrong way (which I fear is a real posibility) in AE more vessels unload more troops too, at least in AMph TF, in Transport TF seems that is also true, but limited to the port handling limit.

As for the conversion from (x)AK to (x)AP as allied, I have converted vary few -if any - given the number of ships of the two types at my reach and that you can allways embark anything in sufficient number of xAK but not so in xAP (heavy equipment).

I regret not making more conversions to AKE after reading Halsey [8|]

I'm making all the conversions from xAK to AE that I can, but haven't decided what to do with the Hog Class, conversion to AKE or not ? Most likely convert a couple of them, but certainly not all, you can only use so many AKE. The conversion to AG is one I won't be making, small craft can be repaired and rearmed anyway in all but the smallest ports, so I don't think it's worth giving up the cargo space. However, I'll probably keep a couple of that class from upgrading, that way I lose negligeable AA firepower for added flexibility.

I'm still not quite sure about the conversion from xAK to xAP, many people say they're short on xAP, but I haven't felt that (yet maybe), what I did do is send a lot of the xAP from India to Panama, because a lor more capacity is needed for the long hauls from WC to far away bases, then Aden -> Karachi.
The AE-Wiki, help fill it out

You'll want the AG's for the hordes pf PT boats that arrive, later in the war.[;)]
