US Carrier BG won't launch a raid

Playing as Allies in WITP scenario
Feb 42, an air combat bg (saratoga and lexington) are near Baker Island
Multiple IJN bgs showup, 5 hexes from my bg including a CVBG, which launches a raid on the US CVBG
The US puts up all fighters (50+) and ravage the IJN strike force
No damage to the USBG
The US fighters are on escort w/50% CAP, I'm not sure why they all went up, but I am glad they did
I am expecting a counter strike as all the DBs and TBs are on naval strike, but no strike is generated
A second, but far weaker IJN strike shows up and is bloodied
Still no US counter strike
This is repeated the next two days
Why won't the undamaged US CVBG with plenty of planes that are in range launch a raid

I used up all my sorties and have to resupply

Did you have your db searching and did they find the other groups.
Did you have enough escort to allow the mission to fly?
What was the weather like?
What were the commanders ratings?

Lot of variables so couldn't be sure of the reason for your non strikes.

Searching in the right direction is usually a major factor in this sort of situation.
