Teleporting TF in PBEM

Post by erstad »

I have a TF that was to go from Rabaul to PM, which is 17 hexes. The TF speed is 3/2 (and yes, none of the ships in the TF had used op points, so that was the true speed. At least one 11 knot ship in the TF).

Playing 2 day turns, it made it there in one turn cycle, which means it averaged 4.25 hexes per naval phase. Shouldn't have been able to do that, unless it A) teleported B) entered warp speed C) Went over the Kokoda trail [:D]

I've attached the save that I got back from my PBEM partner. I also have my safety save from before i ended the japan turn so I'll post that too, don't know if aztez has one before he ended his turn. I'll also post a couple screenies to help illustrate this.

There were some follow TFs involved which may related to the problem but it's probably easiest just to look at the TFs involved, plus the walls have eyes :-)

This is the after turn. See the TFs in PM.

Here's the before turn. The TFs that ended up in PM are in Rabaul (I think I got the right one, game date should be 3/13/1942)

Here's a snippet of the TF screen before. Note speed of 3/2, also note distance of 34 hexes (round trip)

Here's the after screen. Note the distance of 17, which is the return distance to Rabaul from PM.

If I were to guess, I think the algorithm that figures how much everything should speed up/slow down in "follow" situations doesn't always properly bound the speed of the slower task force. But that's just a guess.

Edit: I just noticed the ships with short legs appear to have refueled on the way, which only further deepens the mystery of how they got there.

Never mind. Don found and fixed the problem for patch 2.

One of the calculations that adjusted speeds for the followed and followed by TFs did not check maximum speed and allowed the "adjustment" to force a TF to move in excess of it's maximum speed.
