Harpoon III

Post by aotino »

I just bought the Harpoon III ANW, and I see that there are a number of updates and patches. Will the last patch, dated March 10, 2009 upload all the previous patches, or must I do each one in sequence? The list starts with Mar 26, 2008, and continues May 8 and 9, June 10, and onward till the March 2009. Thanks for the feedback in advance>

There's a post buried somewhere in the Harpoon forum that says to do them in order.  Not to mention, sometimes comprehensive patches are not always comprehensive (which I personally learned for The Operational Art of War III).

Start with 3.92. The list may start then, but the patches didn't; first release (Matrix published) was 3.7.

Thanks guys. Sounds like I'll go straight to 3.92, but if there's a Harpoon V in the future, I'll get in line too. Sounds great.

Im not sure, but a whale hunting game would be cool.Have it take place in the 1800's,catch the whale, sell, upgrade your ship, hire better crew. The possibilities are endless.Either that or my other idea.9/11 game which doubles as a flight simulator.

Wow. You get my vote for bad taste joke of the year, baird.

Harpoon is widely considered the best modern naval sim to date. However, it did get less and less user-friendly and was fairly buggy when I last played it (I think Harpoon II). Harpoon I and the "tabletop" versions were excellent.

The final update in the 3.9.x series was 3.9.4, which IMHO was quite a good version, but there is now a 3.10 beta that you are welcome to try as well.

You can find all the non-beta downloads here:

http://www.matrixgames.com/products/323 ... %20Warfare

You need to apply them in this order:

Update 3.9.2
3.9.2 Hotfix
3.9.3 Hotfix
Update 3.9.4

The 3.10 beta, if you're interested, would then be installed on top of that.

Can you upgrade to a Klingon space ship?

That's quite a mess Erik.

Perhaps it's time for a comprehensive patch now, ya think? [:'(]

Erik,
Is there some discussion about a Harpoon V? Is Matrix involved with any developments? Alan

I was just dreaming aloud when I posted on Harpoon V.  I dearly wish that it had come to fruition. As far as i am aware there are no plans by anyone to do Harpoon V.[:(]

Don't forget the Harpoon I series aka Harpoon Classic, renamed to Harpoon Commander's Edition, tt.asp?forumid=305 . If you liked Harpoon I you'll probably like HCE even if you don't like Harpoon II or 3 or ANW (though many play both sides of the street, Classic and Harpoon3).

As for Harpoon 5, the paper rules are starting to come to fruition, the most important people in Harpoon want there to be a Computer Harpoon 5, and some of your militaries are funding the development of such. No, there isn't an ETA, a screenshot, or anything, it isn't just around the corner, but not everyone has abandoned the idea.

For my part I just keep working on Harpoon Classic and making it better in bits and pieces (naturally with the occasional backwards slide in stability).
