General Montgomery is a defensive general

Post by Texican »

Dunkirk: Tasked with using 5,000 troops to stave off the Germans during the evacuation. Successful.
England: Tasked with organizing ground defenses. Did so in depth, with numerous anti-tank setups. Although there was never a Sea-Lion, presumed successful.
El Alamein: Smashed Rommel's attacks.
Medinine: Smashed Rommel's attacks. Yes, he had Ultra, but Rommel also had spies in Cairo throughout the African campaign, so it factors out.

Main point is that Montgomery was renowned for organization and defense. The 7 for Range is appropriate, the 0 for defense is not. Arguably, Montgomery is a 7-0-1 commander. (And I'd change Patton to a 5-1-0; Patton gets the offensive bonus for being at the front, but reduced range for "being at the front.") I'd rate Rommel like Patton too, perhaps, a 5-1-0.

Thoughts?

Thank goodness this excellent game is somewhat modable.

All commanders have a range of 8, regardless of their other stats. The 7 for Montgomery is his leadership rating, which effects how much he will raise the effectiveness of units under his command. You probably can't mod the range of individual generals.
