Failed attack - is this a bug?

Post by Streptokok »

Is this a bug or am I really too weak to route HQ unit?
No casulties on either side for 2 turns?
Ground combat at 93,34

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 2592 troops, 12 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 93

Defending force 1262 troops, 0 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 1

Japanese adjusted assault: 61

Allied adjusted defense: 22

Japanese assault odds: 2 to 1

Combat modifiers
Defender: terrain(+), leaders(+), experience(-)
Attacker:

Assaulting units:...
4th Mongol Cavalry Division...
1st Ching An Tui Brigade...
3rd Manchukuo Cav Brigade...
...
Defending units:...
17th Group Army...

"if at first you dont win, shock them" doesnt seem to work either:

Interesting. Looks fishy to me. Have you tried putting one of your cav brigades on Reserve and set to Pursue to see if you can just completely eliminate the pesky thing?

No. Not really fishy. It's an artifact of how the code works. When you load a scenario, certain variable registers are loaded. When you save the scenario and return to the main game menu, those registers remain loaded. So you can run a savegame a hundred times, and get the same result every time, because the registers remain loaded.

If you want different results, simply exit the game altogether. That clears all the registers - "then" reload the savegame, and everything will be different.

I read it that ran two consecutive turns? Did I miss something? [&:][&:]

Excellent info!!! That is important for testers to know!

I know all that, but this is from 2 turns.
Deliberate 2:1...
Shock 3:1...

Manual says when you have +2 odds enemy unit gets kicked out of the hex?
And still dont understand how the hell both sides didnt get any casulties/disablements?

I have a weak cav unit fighting an almost non-existent Chinese unit in bad mountains. Win every attack and sometimes I even inflict a few casualties (probably FOW vapor however). I take no losses and over the last month the experience of the unit has gone up, but I don't think I will ever get that last guy in the back of the cave [:D]

When you attack a ground unit not in a base, is the fortification level of the defender displayed in the combat results?
