Fast Transport Unload - 'Destroyed' message

Post by davbaker »

Was unloading at Baker with a fast Transport and got this message:

LOADING/UNLOADING TASK FORCES
B Det USN Port Svc destroyed attempting to land from APD Little at Baker Island
B Det USN Port Svc destroyed attempting to land from APD Colhoun at Baker Island

I can understand destroyed/disabled squads as part of the unload process, but didnt think you got a special message about it.
Have done a few fast transports but havent seen the special 'destroyed' message before and dont particularly want to get it again if I can help it [;)]

The majority of it unloaded fine couple of disabled squads I think.

Is it a common thing at a (0) port or did I do something wrong?

Try posting this in the main AE forum - you'll get more eyes looking at it and it doesn't have to go in the war room section.

I haven't seen that message yet, but I'm on my 3rd restart and am still to get past 1/1/42 ;-D

Unloading from Fast Transport TFs is inherently dangerous. Losses are to be expected and sometimes an entire shipload can be lost attempting to land. You would expect this only when a very small unit is landing (or completing landing). The message indicates that the last bit of a unit (fragment) was lost duirng unloading. It might be accompanied by a message detailing the loss (or might not, don't recall).

A small improvement to the message might be in order - to specify the fragment ID. Doesn't change the basic function, however.

Unloading over the beach can cause casualties.

Thanks again for the clarification.

I have no problems with casualties over the beach, just hadnt seen the message before.

I initially thought I'd lost the whole unit when it flashed up.
Luckily the 330 Load was spread across 6 or 7 APD so losing two wasnt so bad. Might have been different if I'd only used 2 APD [:'(]

Is fast Transport over the beach considered more dangerous than Amphibious over the beach?

Yes. Fast Transport is apparently moddled after Tokyo Express type missions. Dash in, unload quickly, dash out. Amhibious is more of the stay and unload, ala allied operations off Tarawa, etc.
