Vista 64 problem??

Post by Nemo121 »

Hi, just looking for some advice re: getting this to work with Vista 64.

I have Vista 64 and a dual monitor setup - Samsung T220 and a Samsung 2233 ( the 3D version for FPSes etc ). Both screens have a native resolution of 1650 x 1050.

Anyways, when I first tried to start the game it gave me a DEP error which I fixed by making the BTR EXE one of the files which DEP had an exception for. Then when I tried to start it again it either wouldn't work and gave no error message or gave an error message that BTR wouldn't start because it "could not gain exclusive control" of the screen.

I tried setting the shortcut so that it would run in "windowed mode" but no joy there, no joy with compatibility modes either.

I also disabled my second monitor and tried running it on the 2233 both in 1650 x 1050 and 1024 x 768 modes but to no avail.

So, I don't think it is as simple as it being due to my setup being a dual monitor setup.

P.s. Given that some people are having problems with multi-core computers I should probably say mine is a quad core... Seeing as no-one officialy has answered this could anyone confirm that they've got it working on a quad core?

I'm sorry, I'm drawing a complete blank on this.

I'm running the release version (as opposed to my debug versions) on a Q6600 2.4Ghz Quad core, with 8Gb of RAM on Vista x64, and not only do I not get the issue you're seeing, it runs like a dream (I have no idea how I can test the multi-core slowdowns if it doesn't happen to me!). I have a Nvidia 8500Gt, so it's a bit older than yours.

I have DEP set to "essential windows programs and services".

Humour me and try setting the compatability mode to Windows XP sp2 on the program.

I've got it working in a 1024 x 768 window on my screen ( resolution 1650 x 1050 ).

So, the game works and works reasonably quickly ( I don't have the long loading times etc others seem to complain of )...

The problem is it still won't work in full-screen mode... I presume that the flickering screen I am seeing when it tries to load is its attempt to reset the screen resolution on my monitors and failing.

Do you still want me to set the compatibility mode? I tried that previously in non-windowed mode and it didn't help at all. Neither did running it as an administrator or disabling my 2nd monitor and then trying to run it on a single monitor setup.
