Gents,

I'm the Allies and it's January '42 in a PBEM against Miller. Here and there I've tried to form FT convoys to move some troops around only to discover that Allied DDs apparently don't have room to carry troops in AE, unlike WitP. Am I missing something or is that indeed the case this early in the war?

Why don't you try converting some of those surviving 4-stackers into APDs?

This is WAD.
Not all Allied DDs are capable of carrying troops - it's set in the editor now. You will have to check each class to see if it has a 'troop capacity'.
Early APD conversions of the clemson and Wickes classes to APDs should be considered - but not at the expense of the DE conversion available from Apr 42 (love all those DCs for the over-active IJN sub fleet).

Hard to put up with the loss of the 4 stackers for escort duty though. I find there just isn't enough around to allow the luxury of downtime while they are converted. Usually the places you need to get supplies to, with APDs, are taken before the 4 stackers convert.

Obviously this comment has caveats on how aggressive a Jap opponent you have on your hands.
