well, i guess that FB=light targets such as radar stations
DB=light to medium..radars,ports etc...
LB=heavy targets like industries

plus range of each aircraft.

FB's work well against ground targets--inf, armor etc..also against radar and airfields
I use the mediums against ground, rail, and light industry
The heavys should only be used at heavy industry and priority targets

unless you in a point that you have to disrupt the ground troops, then the Heavies are good (BC can be helpful here too)

right before D-Day, is a good time to disrupt the troops in the area

only at night, for Troops, it is not bad, as they are a very large target

while BC did fly some during the day, up to the end of the war, they were still flying at night and getting there head handed to them

I was reading again Max Hastings’ Bomber Command: in the appendix there are some nice tables regarding the number of sorties flown by BC each month.
Admittedly I don’t know how accurate they are, but according to those tables from June 1944 to the and of the war more than one third of the sorties were day raids (not including minelaying and special duties) and during August and September 1944 BC flew more during the day than at night.

One question about ground support campaigns: I’m playing the long Overlord campaign and I’ve noticed that ground troops recover from disruption pretty quickly. Does it make sense to attack ground units from the very beginning or is it better to concentrate on them just before the invasion?

well, for the long campaign, you still want to gain AS first, distrupion of troops is good, but Tiffies will kill tanks and troops
, and guns

shut down all supply lines to the front, pound the airfields, pound the LW

In the first turns of BTR long campaign the Allies have great amounts of Liberators in pool but they don't have Lib squadrons/BGs. In the Med. area they have some squadrons equipped with Baltimores, Mitchells and Bostons. I've found them not so useful against railroads so I changed them to Liberators.
The great question is: Are the medium bombers better in any task than the heavies?
After the B-24s arrive at England and follow some losses it can be shortage of them but until that I plan to use the Libs  in the Meds. Tasctical arguments against this....?

most Med's are faster

Balts pretty much suck

Bostons/A-20s if done right, can get in and get out, before they are caught, but, if caught, they can take a beating

there should be Lib Units, but, they were sent to the Med for some missions, and then returned to the VIIIth, the way the game system works, if I assigned them to the Med, they would stay there, and they really should be VIIIth units, so I put them on delay so they start with the VIIIth

Thanks for the quick answer. If a new unit appears as reinforcement it get its planes from the pool or not?

You can have a look at the details screen of a unit before it arrives. I think most units come with a full complement of planes - in fact German 36-plane units often come with 40 planes. And just as importantly, they seem to come with a full complement of experienced pilots.

depends on the unit, some come in before the plane type is ready, so they pulled there own
