Game hangs on launch

Post by TwoShedsJackson »

Having just installed the game (using Windows XP) - when I try to launch it either via the menu or just using the .exe, it hangs on a black screen - no videos, no nothing. It does this in full screen or windowed mode.

this was a problem on War in the Pacific as I recall, which was fixed by renaming the video directory to videoold so it skipped them, but the videos this time are in the Eagle Day directory, so can't do that.

I use VLC player for avis, when i try to play them in the player it says 'IV50 codec is not supported. There is no way for you to fix this' (!). I switched the default player for avis to Window Media Player and then WMP Classic both of which play them standalone, but when I try launching the game again I get the black screen and hang.

Any workaround or solution for this problem?

Try cut and pasting them into the matrix games directory (or anywhere, outside of the game directory, or delete if you don't wish to keep a backup even)? I did this just so I didn't have to hit escape every time.

There were 3 files, the largest of the 3 was, I believe, the one that plays when launching the game. Don't recall if it was in the root EDTBTR, or the DAT folder.

Thanks for the very quick reply :) That did the trick, I had tried moving the two in the directory that the exe is in alright, but I hadn't noticed the third one, which is in the DAT/video folder, moving all three out got it to launch.

Again, much obliged :)
