Philippino Divisions
One of the basic problems with the defence of the Philippines is that the defensive forces are dispersed across the islands. Now there are 2 divisions and several other units deployed on the smaller islands. they could be instrumental in aiding the defence of Manila. So my question is, how do you shift those divisions wholesale to Manila or elsewhere (considering they belong to a restricted command)?
RE: Philippino Divisions
You can use the Asiatic Fleet's PBYs to shift them to another base of the same command - even without paying PPs. Loading them in surface transports is rather risky (and you have to pay PPs for that).

Damn wish I knew this before! Can the same be done to the btns of the PM Brigade strung out across PNG with the Aus Cats and Empires?

Yes, you can pick them up and fly them into Port Moresby, for example, instead of stranding them in the jungle. The only thing that gets left behind is their larger pieces of equipment.

And that's my point exactly. I knew that you could move forces with the PBYs etc but without their artillery, each division does lose its teeth, so to say. There is no way to change HQs to move by spendin PPs. Is there any other way to move their artillery?
RE: Philippino Divisions
The artillery of the PI divisions can be moved as they are mostly just mortars anyway. At least I haven't run into problems there yet.
The NG Rifle detachments can also be moved easily. Lark Force might be harder since it has 25 pounders in its inventory but IIRC starts attached to an unrestricted HQ. Shipping it out might be the better option if you are fast enough.

RE: Philippino Divisions
Can 75mm field pieces be lifted? BTW how long do they take to transport a whole division?
Now that I'm thinking, if I had changed HQ for the Dutch transport unit and moved it to the Philippines early on, it would have been much easier to airlift one or both divisions. I practically concentrated most of the (admittedly light) battalions present near Palembang over a few turns with it.... hmm that's something I'll try to do when I start again one day...

RE: Philippino Divisions
A change in restricted units management and national boundaries was announced for the patch, so I think all this point will be subject to quite changes in near future.
RE: Philippino Divisions
There is a dutch transport squadron available if you pay the PP to release them to an unrestricted command (neccessary to fly them out of dutch bases). But the transport capacity of these planes is rather limited I'd assume the PBYs have a higher transport capacity, meaning they can transport heavier equipment.
On the other hand you might want to use patrol planes for patrol missions, so its a tradeoff. Wonderful isn't it? [:D][;)]

RE: Philippino Divisions
To be honest the Phillipino divisions in real life were not very well trained or equipped (despite MacArthur's protests to the contrary). They would have been far better taking to the hills and fighting and subversive guerilla war rather than trying to face Tojo's finest in open combat (and getting absolutely creamed as a result)
RE: Philippino Divisions
Ok. So where's the button to order them to take to the hills? NIRLBITG. (Not in real life, but in the game.) [:D]
Occasionally, and randomly, problems and solutions collide. The probability of these collisions is inversely related to the number of committees working on the solutions. -- Me.
RE: Philippino Divisions
Perhaps we should ask for this in a future patch - ability to assign Phillipino locally-raised divisions to subversive guerilla tactics...
Remember that the Japs used these against the re-invading US in 1944+ very successfully, a lot of the Jap troops didn't surrender until 1946 and several kept going until the 1970's...

RE: Philippino Divisions
Actually the Philippino Army was used in a conventional campaign rather than in a guerilla role - those came later. With so many players claiming that they are holding Manila and environs for long, there would be an outcry if there was a radical change.
Mind I like the little exploit in WitP where you could save a few divisions which would rebuild over time...[:)] hehe maybe even a corps HQ now for added flavour...

RE: Philippino Divisions
I'd leave the far flung Philippino units where they are.
They will not add much combat potential to your forces on Luzon, and make the supply situation worse. And your PBYs are better off raising the DL of Japanese transport task forces so your subs can do the best they can.

RE: Philippino Divisions
It would be interesting though as a future patch, having Phillipino Divisions go 'native' and begin a 'guerilla' campaign. Certainly they would have been more effective than in open combat, which is what they were actually used for

There are garrison requirements for the Japanese in the Philippines.
RE: Philippino Divisions
Thanks, haven't gotten that far yet

Yes, or you can load them up on subs. One small bat. will take about three or four fleet subs to evacuate. Some of those unit are very high quality and can be worth pulling out and used as raiders when you are on the offensive. But they are so small that thier loss is no big deal either. (War is cruelty)
