BOB 1940 - LW Replacements and Strategy

Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

BOB 1940 - LW Replacements and Strategy

Post by jomni »

Thanks's to the post initiated by Hard Sarge, I now learned how to improve my kill cout by performing coorinated fighter sweeps. During and after the bombing raid. I now have a couple of questions:

1) Can someone explain the replacement screen. What does 'Total' and 'Pool' mean?

2) Employing the FS tactics to increase kills also increases losses on Fighters. They are also quite effective in keeping the bombers alive. But looking at the long term prospects, it seems that fighter losses will eventually deplete the number of overall fighters. Bombers generally get more replacements per day but because of the effectivity of the tactic, I end up getting a lot of spare bombers but no spare fighters. Any comments and experiences?

Total is how many you have received from the start, pool is how many are available and waiting to be sent to a unit.

you got to horde your fighters ?

one of the issues in the Real World, was that there were not many fighters being produced, not anything close to what the RAF was getting

also, pilot replacement was slow, and most were seen to be not too well trained in what they needed to know, so the JG's ended up making there own training Staffels, when new pilots came in, they went to the Training Staffel first, to be retrained in what was needed

pools ?

total is the total built, while the pool is how many are still in the pool

so, units upgrading, early starting stock, can make these numbers not match up

but perfect world, the He 100, would start with 0 and 0, after 10 days, 15 would be built, none have been used as replacements or to reform a unit, total build would be 15 and the stockpile pool would be 15

(and no, you don't get the He 100)
(later on in the War, the US also ended up doing something like this, but they had a large group for training, and then once handed over to the FG, they were also retrained)

in the BoBs, the LW gets there replacements every two days
