Sound problems

Post by BlueLancer3212 »

I'm assuming that there is music playing during the opening sequences of the game, similar to that of Steel Panthers. However, there is no sound/music playing during the sequence showing the developers, etc, and the pictures of the ships.

Is there something that I'm missing? In preferences, I have the music dial all of the way to the top, and there's nothing wrong with my audio card or set up because it plays fine for other games.

I downloaded the game, but have a physical disk on the way; will that take care of the problem?

Make sure there is no winamp or some other music player running in the background. They seem to outrank and shut off WPO's sounds.

Does that include Windows Media Player?  I don't have any other music players on my computer.  I've tried uninstalling the digital download version and installed the disk version, but still no sound at all.

Does it make a difference if I'm working off the 1.00 version or the 1.205u version?

How would I know if I have a music player running in the background?

Hmm... is your sound card working fine otherwise?

To see what's running in the background, check bottom right corner. Media player's icon I believe is a circle... :)

Do update to 1.205U.

Thanks for all of your help ... I also sent the question along to the help desk. Between their response (to uninstall and reinstall) and your input, I got the sound working just fine. Part of the problem may have been that the DirectX didn't install with the game, so I went to the DirectX website and downloaded the most recent version and installed that as well.

Everything is working fine now ... much thanks ...

In case anyone else has a similar problem, here's the helpdesk response as well:

"Hi
You will need to uninstall the old game reboot, turn off all anti virus and firewall software, Using a freshly downloaded file, unzip it to the desktop, or if you have an unscratched CD, begin installing it to the default locations. (You cannot install it to a flash drive or network drive) after it has installed, reboot, turn off all anti virus and firewall software, install ALL updates from oldest to newest, reboot and play.

Please contact us again if you have any further questions, enjoy your game!"
