Just bought harpoon

Post by nosse »

Yes I did it. I did buy Harpoon 3 ANW. I first read about Harpoon II it in a Swedish computer magazine back in the early 90is. They described how they reenacted the search for Russian submarines outside Karlskrona in Sweden using Harpoon. I didn't buy it at that time but now I couldn't resist.

I played around with the demo a bit and found it quite cool.

But for starters where do I begin. Are there any good small scenarios available to get my feet wet. Would be cool if there were any scenarios depicting what I read about.

Harpoon 3 [ANW] scenarios for the PlayersDB

Post by hermanhum »

Welcome aboard, shipmate.  [8D]

Hope that you got it all patched up to the v3.9.4.  If not, the ones I recommend are:

ftp://ftp.matrixgames.com/pub/Harpoon3ANW/Harpoon3ANW-UpdateRelease-380-Inc.zip
 ftp://ftp.matrixgames.com/pub/Harpoon3ANW/Harpoon3ANW-UpdateRelease-v3900DR.zip
 ftp://ftp.matrixgames.com/pub/Harpoon3ANW/Harpoon3ANW-UpdateRelease-v392bComp.zip
 ftp://ftp.matrixgames.com/pub/Harpoon3ANW/Harpoon3ANW-UpdateHotfix-v393.zip
 ftp://ftp.matrixgames.com/pub/Harpoon3ANW/Harpoon3ANW-HotfixRelease-v394.zip

I suggest using the PlayersDB for the least number of problems.

There are many small scenarios that you can use to learn the game.  The "Battles of the Third World War" battleset consists primarily of very small scenarios.  Most have less than 10 units aside.

Freek Schepers' excellent Falklands battleset also has many superb small unit actions intersposed with medium and larger scenarios.

The Swedish submarine scenario you described is probably this one:
Operation Ratcatcher in the global conflicts-1 battleset.

Looking forward to a multi-player game with you soon.

Thanks for the compliment Herman! And there is a new Falkland scenario on the way; Between a Rock and a Hard Place, just as soon as Herman releases it!

This scnenario postulates that Argentine air attacks forced the UK TF to withdraw and come back armed with REAL carriers, and supported by US CVBG while Russian long range bombers based in Angola try to counter the Russians. A huge map, significant forces and I think a tough game from at least 3 of 4 sites.
