Game could use a quick-save button

Smugglers IV - Doomsday is a fun and challenging turn-based space-trading game where you take command of an advanced space ship amidst a galaxy torn by war and crime! With your ship and skilled crew you can choose to be a greedy trader, ambitious bounty hunter, ruthless pirate, or one of the other professions in your quest for riches, fame, and power! Through trading, fulfilling missions, or pirating, you can earn the money and skills necessary to buy new ships and upgrade your equipment. As success brings larger ships, missions, and enemies, you'll have to manage a crew, board & plunder enemy ships, and even conquer star systems.

Game could use a quick-save button

Post by LarryP »

Having to close three menus each time I save, it would be nice to have a quick-save keyboard button, like F5 or similar.

The manual shows no keyboard shortcuts at all though. [:(]

I think keyboard shortcuts would be great for the battles too!

I agree a quicksave would be most helpful.

The other issue is at Admiral level when you find devices and give them to the Federation, you get no more experience points, but if you sell them on the blackmarket you tarnish your reputation? If I get no more experience points and can't upgrade combat capabilities once you hit Admiral, then I should be able to sell the devices for money so I can upgrade my ship components.

I finally captured a battleship, and it's not easy (at least to me it's not easy).

It seems as if the opponents get harder once you are in a battleship, or it could just be my imagination.

I had the most fun in the destroyer, but in the cruiser and battleship, it seems as if its more work.

On one screen where you assign escorts to take on enemy ships, I was unable to assign my escorts to attack incoming ships. I had to do it myself. So that screen needs to be looked at or I'm just missing something.

If Admiral level is like that then I should stay where I'm at. That's strange to not have a good option for finding treasure. I forgot what level I'm at. I also have the Destroyer and am ready to upgrade soon too.

I noticed when I played last night, my perk that destroys the missiles would not work for at least 6+ clicks! Before it would work with no more than 2 clicks, usually one. I had not changed a thing. I finally spent $640k and upgraded it from 40% to 80%. Now it works the way it used to work before?! Weird.

You can't turn down promotion, so you will eventually hit admiral. At that point you receive no more experience points. I have a feeling the game is going to end soon since I am getting older in my picture, but I haven't read the manual to check and see if this is true.

It would be nice to continue to upgrade your skills even if you can't progress past admiral, but I'm sure the developer had a reason for this?

I also notice that there is a blank upgrade square in the equipment screens. What is this for?

Sorry for taking the thread off track.

You can still find treasure, you just can't progress in experience once admiral is reached. Admiral = no more upgrades in combat skills or any other skills.

I haven't played the other characters yet to know what limitations have been placed on them eg...pirates, trader.

I could not care less about the thread being taken off track. Obviously it's not getting any attention anyways, although the developer has posted replies else where after this post.

I might just stop playing the game then if I am headed towards a brick wall with progress. That stinks. That's sad to hear because I have been enjoying this game a lot, it reminds me of how much fun I had with Delta Force many years ago. The same kind of addiction.

I don't know about the blank square. Maybe I saw it but paid no attention. There are also squares in the ship purchase menu that say N\A. Not available. Why? [&:]

I too have only been playing at one type so I don't know how much different if any, the others play like.

I see in your profile that you're two years older than me. I thought I might be talking to another young gamer. Most people here do NOT create a profile so I seldom know how old they are or where they live. A couple of old farts here, you and me that is. [8D] [;)]

I used to live in California. Don't remember If I have been to Imperial Valley though. It seems to me that the PBS show California's Gold, Hugh Hewitt, did a show on Imperial Valley. Is there a big winery there owned by an Italian family? I think it's a desert terrain?

Now we are really off topic. [X(]

Yep Delta Force was a good game.

Yep I'm an old fart!

Imperial Valley is next to the Mexican border. Don't even get me going on that subject.

We are 50 miles west of Yuma and 100 miles East of San Diego.

Lovely place in the summer time.

A pity that the developer does not respond to our questions. It's not like we don't like his game.

The only thing I really have left is to save money and upgrade the final components in the battleship, and wait for the game to come to some sort of conclusion.

I have never seen any harm in a profile on this forum. Most of us are old farts anyway unless Osprey is hanging around. [;)]

There are grapes grown in the North end of the valley. I use to be a farmer, and don't get me going on that one either.

Well there should be some type of end game because I could see this game getting too repetitious anyway when ADMIRAL is reached... so I wonder, if you do not force retirement, does your aged warrior eventually drop dead?

I read in some thread here (don't remember which one) where the developer wrote the end game was either the character is 150 years old or your faction controls 2/3 of the galaxies (i.e. won the war).

I'm at mercenary Admiral and now I'm only doing missions that are directly related to a current battle for one the galaxies. When I successfully complete one it does appear to have some effect on the outcome of the war.

Just guessing but probably because a long-time character would be so loaded with skills that you get some kind of superhero.. making everything too easy or turning it all into just a simple quest for all the skills and near invincible status. I think one of the elements of "strategy" in the game is to carefully select skills for the kind of character and game strategy you want to play.

jdew,

I did think about that, but it would be fun on some level to eventually wind up with a superhero. [:D]

I have the maurauder class BB currently and I guess I can start working on the next one up. I didn't check but are droids only on BB.

If I can affect the war, then I don't mind slogging on so to speak.

I've seen droids on most every kind of ship and have picked up a couple in cargo holds too (they were cargo).

With a BB you can do the really high-value assault missions or starbase attacks and I think I recall seeing a mission where you have to take on some kind of fleet. And it does effect the war. Seems like the higher the value, the more effect it can have (and the tougher the opposition).

I haven't managed to get a BB yet.... seems like you almost have to be a superhero to get one! [:)]

Since this thread is a hodge-podge, I'll ask here, has anyone had a Ghost Ship actually blow up and cause damage? I have seen the threat message all the time but never seen one go kaboom!

I wonder whatever happened to the developer. He was here and then poof, gone. Hopefully just on vacation or something.

I think you are to assume the ship does blow and the amount of money you take off the ship is all you are able to recover before the event takes place?
