Turn Based WEGO?

Armada 2526 continues the great tradition of space opera games. You guide your race from its first interstellar journeys, until it becomes a mighty galactic empire. Along the way, you'll explore the galaxy, conduct research, diplomacy and trade, found new colonies, maneuver mighty star fleets, and fight epic battles.

Turn Based WEGO?

Post by balto »

Sorry for this low tech question, but can someone explain Turn Based WEGO?

I take it this will not work in PBEM?

Thank you

Wiki about WEGO:

Turn-based games come in two main forms depending on whether, within a turn, players play simultaneously or take their turns in sequence. The former games fall under the category of simultaneously-executed games (also called phase-based or "We-Go"), with Diplomacy being a notable example of this style of game.

I do not play PBEM but WEGO probably excludes the PBEM - I guess - because you share the files in a PBEM after you have already executed your commands.

Can't comment for this particular game, but there are WEGO games that are very playable by pbem (mostly notably the Combat Mission series). It just requires that you send 2 emails each for each turn, as you need to each give orders, then it is resolved and you see the results. Sounds clunky, but works well.

Thank you both.

I do not know the Combat Mission series. Does anyone know if this can be PBEM?

Thank you again.

Sorry, I see the Overview says NO PBEM. I think that was just added because I have been following this game for a few days and I do not remember seeing that.

Looks slightly like a Civ 4, but in space -- which is a GREAT thing.

Thank you

BTW..

The WEGO system is this:   Everyone issues their orders for the turn at the same time.  You hit "End Turn" and all side's actions are made at the same time.  It eliminates the unbalanced turn-based part but also adds an extra dimension by attempting to anticipate what your enemy might do while your orders are being carried out.

WEGO is *much* better for pbem than IGO-UGO when you have many players: everyone makes its turn, a "host" resolves the turn and send it back, etc..
So all players have to wait much less ! It's used in CM (even if it's 2 players only), but also Dominions, Space Empires - those games can have 15+ players !
Too bad A2526 won't have pbem...
