Lag under Windows 7

Post by d0mbo »

Hi There,

Purchased a new laptop with Windows 7 pre-installed. It's quite a fast set-up for a notebook, so i was thinking i would stroll trough WITP AE. The loading was much faster alright, however, every button i press in the UI of the game gives about 1 to 2 seconds lag, before opening the new screen.

I am wondering of others have a similar experience and if something can be done about it on this side (e.g. a certain switch or whatever).

Hope someone can help. Not really a gamestopper, but with the amount of menus to navigate in WITP it gets annoying.....

Regards,

I have not noticed this under Windows 7. But I would recommend that, if you are running multi-core, you check the affinity of the process under task manager. Most of the time when I have seen delay issues, such as this, it was because of the multi-core/affinity settings.

you might also try using the -dd_sw switch, it helps some newer pcs.

Thanks guys, forgot about the switches but that halved the lag!!

About affinity:

I can't change the affinity in Task Manager whilst running the app... "no access". When it's not running, i can't select the game so could someone give me a hint how to change affinity on WITP AE?

Thanks so far!

If you are logged in as an Administrator then you should be able to right click on the process from the 'Processes' tab under task manager. There you would see the option to 'Set Affinity..."

However, it is possible that you would not have the option to do this if you are on a single core computer or not running as an admin.

Hope this helps.

Affinity in the game is set with the -cpu# switch, where # is a digit from 1 to 4.

I would also recommend using -SingleCpuOrders

The issue is not a Windows 7 issue, it's a multi core CPU issue.  It happens under all versions of Windows that support multi cores.

well the lag is tolerable now, although i still have just a little bit of delay between clicking and opening the respective menu/overview.

guess i'll just have to live with that, which is perfectly possible.

thanks for the responses guys.
