Strafing

In both the old BTR and the new version fighters can strafe rail yards, AF and troops. I assume that's also the case in BOB.

In the old game I used to avoid this like the plauge as generally I would loose a couple of fighters, and as best I can tell would do somewhere between 0% damage to maybe 1% or 2%. I figured "Hell I can bomb the place and loose a few planes and shut it down, so why bother".
However I wondered then, and still do now, is there more to it? Is there stuff happening under the hood? I know that historically straffing trucks and rolling stock was a major part of allied strategy and did major damage to German logistic capabilities.

I am thinking perhaps in addition to the small amount of damage to the targets themselves perhaps this is destroying supplies, or slowing thier transit, etc.

Especially now that more robust types, like the Typhoon, can sweep is there a real advantage to be gained by going wild and strafing all the rail yards and troops I can reach? or is it really just those couple of percent of damage that I am doing?

I have wondered about this, too!

I figure there is something going on. Strafing moving troops seems to be very disruptive. Strafing railyards seems to delay repairs. Strafing supply lines? I havn't figured out if this does anything -- but, I like to think it does!

TOTAL GUESS!!! Maybe the effect is very subtle. Historically, other than shooting up aircraft on the ground, most of the MG railroad strafings, probably just delayed shipment of supplies.

BTW: I don't think Harley or HARD_Sarge will tell us.

I would expect there to be some effect other than just straight up damage to the target if it is part of a supply line. Recall you can effect the Disruption value of Ground Units by damaging Rail and Port targets that are a link in the supply line to that unit. I believe I have also heard people observing similar effects from attacking Area / Urban targets near Ground Units. Recall that it has been stated in I believe the Manual that if Rail and Port Supply Line facilities have been destroyed that Trucks will be delivering supplies to effected units.

I think that there are a lot of things mathematically modeled behind the scenes of this game that are linked to verious types of events that take place with respect to specific targets.
