Recon Troops used as security screen

Post by larryfulkerson »

Hey you guys....I'm trying something new. I used to use the Panzer recon assets to complete the surround on Soviet units when I'm attacking but when the enemy troops are sparse on the map I can break those units down and spread them out ahead of my main force units and use them to convert hexes and look for the bad guys. The trouble with breaking down the recon units is that it makes them fragile in combat. So I have to try not to move them next to known enemy units unless I have a main force unit within moving distance to come to the rescue. It's working better this way. I feel like I'm making more progress using this method and thought I'd share it with you guys.

Yeah I certainly do that as well at times. Games like FitE really lend themselves to it I find as there arent a lot of russians around at the start, and if my opponent really wants to chase one third of a recon unit around the map, they're welcome to!

Yep, I do the same. Race them as far as possible, and if the enemy wants to chase them then go ahead, because I'll just move on next turn and the enemy is open to attack from my bigger units.
