Scan range, stealth & reconnaissance

Armada 2526 continues the great tradition of space opera games. You guide your race from its first interstellar journeys, until it becomes a mighty galactic empire. Along the way, you'll explore the galaxy, conduct research, diplomacy and trade, found new colonies, maneuver mighty star fleets, and fight epic battles.

Scan range, stealth & reconnaissance

Post by Aroddo »

I rather like how fleet detection is handled: Simple

You can build scanners of varying quality at systems. In the attached picture, you can see the smallest version at the Veii system and the next larger one at Capua.
The scan range is indicated by different shades of blue: The more intense the color, the more info you get about the detected fleet.

Likewise, players can invest research in stealth technology, with each level lowering the amount of info a player gains from his scanners. The quality of information ranges from fleet composition, allegiance, fleet size down to not being detectable at all.

Also, ships have a scan range, too. Scouts in particular have a pretty decent scan range, as can be seen when you look at the small ship next to Epsilon Virginis at the center top of the picture. Setting them to patrol at the edges of your empire makes quite a lot of sense. Unless you prefer surprises...

Oh, and this is a "Very Large" map, measuring 170x170 sectors. The maximum size for custom games is 1000x1000.

Can the colors for scanner range and effectiveness be modded?

Thanks, Aroddo! This is very helpful.

Just one question: Can ships get better scanners (as technology progresses) as well? Or are scanner upgrades/improvements generally restricted to star systems only?

On an unrelated note, this bit definitely caught my attention:

Good gods, are you serious?? Sheesh, and I thought that map was pretty damn big already! A maxed-out map, however, would be almost 36 times that size (assuming I did the math right).

I think I'm in love....

Well, there's the survey ship which has an even better scan range (like the level 2 stationary scanner) but no, the other ships don't get increased scan range.

I think the Twelve Races scenario I wrote about was about 200x200 sectors but with much much fewer stars.
Anyway, playing on a 1000x1000 map will require more than more weeking from anyone ...

Are there tactical scanners and counter-measures (ECM & ECCM, etc.)?

Iceman, such behavior has likely resulted in your already having a record of complaints. Try not to add to them.
