Orzel's First Fight....Hellcat.

Post by Orzel Bialy »

Just thought I'd throw out a thread...since this will probably be funny as Hell, what with this being my first Pbem command! :) Can you all spell
" I M P E N D I N G B L O O D B A T H" ? :D

Jess,
I agree, I think Hellcat will be a bit busy...four games going at once...and not all of them are newbies like me. Taking on you, hmmm perhaps Hellcat bit off a bit too much? lol :D Of course you just never know? Hellcat could be the second coming of Patton or Rommel! ;)
It will be interesting to watch these posting over the next couple days. Especially in my battle where I picked to command the French in 1940. Talk about being a glutton for punishment.
This is so interesting that I'm also trying to borrow my brothers new laptop for my work related trip this week...so I can load up SPWAW and play it from the hotel room at night as well as visit the forum. :D
GOT TO HAVE MY SPWAW FIX!!!

Turn I

Post by Orzel Bialy »

Hmmm, some scout AFV's and panzers have been reported to HQ. The Germans seem to have begun probing the lines.
Must find out more on what their intent is.

If the French general can't figure that out, its time to put a Sgt in charge. He'll tell you what the Krauts are gonna do!

Goblin LOL

Post by Orzel Bialy »

Goblin...remember, I'm portraying the French military of WW2 here, I have to be in character. :D

I know what their over-all intent is...just where will it begin? A frontal assault? A vintage hit to the flank(s)? Just thinking out loud without giving anything away...;)

Let's see what Hellcat has in store for Frenchie? LOL.

donenblitzen! one of our pzIIs is a smoking heap on the road! It's seems the French army have decided to resist after all...

we found a little anti-tank man riding about in a peugeot hiding in a bush, he's gone now but man those peugeot's are strong, maybe the French should put big guns on them!

Orzel has some well placed armour along a river bank to the South of the main town and safely covering their flanks are tank traps. They are grouped together well too and have caught some of my force on the hop so to speak. Still the 88mm shells falling round them should give them pause to think...

we have a mg unit in the belltower of the church so the town can be said to be ours, however we can see more of those funny looking French tanks dotted about in the countryside...

Turn II

Post by Orzel Bialy »

Hellcat,
Interesting turn. Stuka attack and 88's. Not a surprise though, fully expected. ;)
I'll have to take care of those eyes you have in the church steeple...they see too much.
Glad to see you enjoyed my French version of a "mobile AT" unit...some poor schmuck with an ATR shoved into a staff car. How's that for Frugal? :D
I think you'll enjoy the results of the second turn...88's are fierce weapons, however don't place too much faith in them. They can find themselves in hot water if they miss their mark and leave themselves open to return fire.
The tank traps are indeed mine...just a little tactic I learned to help cover my flanks. Limits the area I have to try and plan kill zones for. :D But now I leak too much, the rest I shall leave for you to find out.

French SITREP out-take

Post by Orzel Bialy »

****over the crackle of the radio can be heard gunfire...it comes from rapid fire 25mm guns****

Soldier/Radioman :"The Germans are pushing armor into the centre. They have also brought up heavier weaponry as well"
***in the background is heard the high-pitched thunderclap of an 88mm****

HQ: "Can you determine enemy numbers and types?"
Soldier/Radioman: " about a dozen vehicles...no make that eleven, no wait ten..."
***explosions of brewing German armor drown out radioman***

Soldier/Radioman: "we are working on silencing heavy enemy artillery...supporting vehicles are engaging them as I speak."

That when the radio transmission is drowned out by the heavy thump of automatic weaponry. What can be happening on the battlefield? Stay tuned! :D

hmm another smoking pzII, and pzjager I - the tanquility of this beautiful French town has been shattered... I forgot that the French didn't mass their tanks historically and could be effective when they did... It's getting bloody and infantry skirmishes near the town perimeter are kicking off...

**** one of pzivs has had its gun shot out!

Orz - tried to be buy a little of everything for this fight... too little of everything it seems...

Turn III

Post by Orzel Bialy »

The battle is indeed heating up a bit....and you're right Hellcat, it seems to have taken a bit of a nastier edge than I expected.

Let's see...what to report? Well, for starters there are Germans everywhere it seems: in front of me, on both flanks and even the rear area! I may have not been as careful with my deployment as I had thought.

The only good news this turn is I have managed to keep the two spotted 88's pinned thus far and finished off a Pzkfw IV. :) However, I did not get off unscathed... lost another S35...to a suspension shot! :(

If this gets down to an infantry battle then Hellcat will have a definite advantage with the superior firepower of the German infantry squads. So I must do everything exactly right or I'll be in a real bind.

So, against better judgement it seems like this is the time to get a bit more aggressive...even though that may not be the best type of tactic for my soft, poor-morale factored Frenchmen.

Oh well, I'll either make true soldiers of them....or kill them in the process! :D

The pressure is on the French, despite their airforce doing well... however, developments in the far South of the map are rather concerning due to their armor having now crossed the river ad gone on the offensive....

Back to the Game

Post by Orzel Bialy »

Ok, the French CO is back at the controls and ready to see what mischef Hellcat has made since last night. :)

Pressure is on eh? Well, that's putting it rather mildly unfortunately. :(
My brave French lads have the wills of spooked horses in the middle of a forest fire it would seem.
They see a Jerry HT...morale drops to crapola...when the Jerries actually open fire the bullets have to work harder to catch up with the fleeing, panic-strickened mob!
Even my armored monsters...the Char B1's are crewed by apparent troops of girl scouts! 37mm hits...that can't hurt them unless a critical shot is obtained (or a flank shot) bounce off. Most crews would say "ah my valiant stead...they can't hurt us" and fire back. Not these posey-picking bunch of sissies...they instead cry out "Momma!" and jump out and run!

But, I will do my best none-the-less. Even if I have to personally shoot them as they flee...they will learn to fear retreat more than death. Yeah right! :D

The brightest moment of this turn was ambushing some of Hellcats Motorcycle troops. Not that this is much to cheer about...but at least someone is killing the enemy!

OK Hellcat...let's see if you can make anymore of these nose-pickers soil themselves and break the record for the first ever two-minute mile sprint! LOL

hmm my own forces are clearly not that experienced either... apart from two units apparently 'stuck in a field' and unable to get out - personally I think they found something better to do...

My shots fire but don't seem to actually hit much, we advanced so far in so few days my men are clearly tired out...

Orzel's Southern armor is still posing me a problem however I have plans for that to be soon under control...

Turn 5

Post by Orzel Bialy »

If these men of mine are fighting a war...I have to wonder just where the Hell it's at? because it isn't in the same place I'm looking at! :)
Hellcat, all I can say is that if this battle were about whose men could panic and flee towards their retreat hex and shoot without hitting anything...you'd be in serious trouble my friend! :D
Germans have advanced right up to my doorstep and my units look like a three stooges act...one pulling the other out of the way trying to get out the door first! :p
I should have taken away the wine before the battle started...now it's coming back to haunt me. To demostrate the effect....here is a tally of what my soldiers have killed the following in the last two turns:

One Jpz1
half a dozen German Motorcyclists
Twenty seven rabbits
thirty two squirels
some hundred pigeons/doves and various other birds
and vandalized at least two hundred trees with rifle shot.

Bastards!

Yet despite these latest reports of cowardly acts...a few units are trying to prove that not the entire French force are wearing lace bloomers.
Some armor on the southern fringe continues to advance...albeit slowly...and some infantry units are joinin in also, trying to show their stuff.
I shall try to build something around these gallant few...though it may be tough as Hellcat can call in arty far quicker than I can. My FO officer just informed me that Christ will return for his second coming long before my requested arty strike arrives.
Well back to the command trench to have a good laugh!
