by the way, what is the best way to play this game via email? Does anyone use pbem?

The next patch will prolly be out around late Jan, or Feb...(Mar??) as it's all about Ralph getting it done.......

I think PBEM is standard.
You may want to joint a club like www.theblitz.org or www.the-strategist.net there you find enough opponents and I bet some good teachers too.
