Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

Some things to notice...The armor in reserve can be thrown into the battle if your leader gets the correct die roll, the better the commander the higher the odds...Soviet artillery units can aid in the attack 2 hexs if they didn't move that turn...The x on units mean there over 100 in defence...

Opp's before you ask the pink square you see is the last hex you clicked on. It helps to let you know what hex you looking at...I hate to put them in ss's, so look around it...

The game looks beautiful but I'm just confused as hell by the counter symbols, the values on them don't mean a thing to me at the moment.  Especially, I think I'm more confused when then Soviets have units grouped up 5 hexes deep, and I'm not sure what are support/artillery units aiding in an attack.  I'm sure I'll learn, but I find it difficult at the moment when you try to explain what's on going on the map.

Not yout fault, but mine.

I would imagine playing Germany and still fighting in 1943 and later would be like playing Japan in WITP[&o]

Now these Soviet 43 screens are what I am talking about.

These are standard NATO counter symbols do you need a guide?

Crossed Squares are infantry and ovals encased in square is armor units the butterfly enclosed by a square are air units, artillery are squares with a circle inside and there are mech units, a crossed x with a circle.

Here is a link to some of the basic ones:
