a/c factory production ?

Just wondering what happens when you've got a factory set to produce something & the availability date of that aircraft comes to an end but don't have the a/c set to upgrade to anything? Does it keep producing or stop, does it automatically start producing a similar a/c type ie F to F or B to B based on nationality? This is mostly for the Allied side who has no ability to control the a/c factories. An example say I've got a Hurricane factory in Canada & the availabilty date of the Hurricane passes & I've got the Hurricane set to upgrade to itself, what does the factory do?
