SUPPLY PROBLEM

Post by santino250 »

It is Feb. 42, and I can't get enough supplies to land on many of the islands... And how do you get big fleets to dock?? Break them up? Even at my bigger ports...

What is the best way to supply these small Ported bases? And they will not unload TB loaded with fuel...

With small ports use "amphibious" type transport rather than cargo.
You don't have to dock a TF to unload it, but it gets slower of course if not docked.

Yes, break up your big fleets to smaller task forces to load or unload. I have no problem overloading Tokyo with tons of transports there

In my campaign Sydney has run out of fuel completely!  [:@]  Have Big E and Lady Lex sitting there high and dry.  Just getting enough juice trickling through to run a couple of DD ASW's (the IJN subs have been having a field day in the shores of SE Australia...)

You have to be careful with supply in Sydney in the beginning. I usually start sending fuel there on day one when playing the Americans. YEs, Japan usually does have a field day on the coast of Australia. You need to get your aircraft going on ASW in virtually every base along the coast plus a number of ASW surface fleets working along the coast full time.

Australia generates virtually no fuel. You need to ship it in from Abadan, or the USA.

I've shipped some fuel from the DEI to Carnarvaon (NW Aussie), Darwin and also Perth,  but the AI's mini-KB patrolling up & down Java & Sumatra (it's now mid-Jan '42) seems to have rather put the kybosh on things.  Tried sending in a medium tanker fleet with good AA cover and also plenty of LRCAP (including some Hurricanne II's) and guess what the AI sank all 4 tankers + the 2 escorts in one day + shot down about 30 Dutch & British fighters to boot!  Won't try that again.
Now have plenty of fuel at the three Aussie ports listed above, have tried moving some around the south coast of Australia but the subs have intercepted each tanker (even if it has an escort) [:@] - two sunk & two laid up for months in Sydney dockyard.
Brisbane still has about 20k fuel, but am using that to leep the convoys running up to Milne Bay, Noumea (which is on mega buildup) and PM.
Abadan is completed clogged up although I am building up the port ASAP, something like 42 freighters disbanded there.  Have had more luck running a few freighters across from Cape Town to Perth although I finally have managed to send a big spare tanker from Abadan down to South Africa.  SF and LA are running a regular supply of tankers to Pearl,  have even taken a few on further afield to Suva, Fiji,  NZ, Luganville, Efate and finally Noumea.  Perhaps I should run a couple over a bit further to torpedo ally - currently have 4-6 IJN subs sitting between Brisbane and Sydney [:(]

I'm seeing a supply problem, but perhaps I'm assuming the wrong thing.
In the previous game (war in the pacific), supply was handled from base to base automatically.
I'm not seeing much movement of supply, but then the ports are still rather small - only Feb 42 so far...
In the supply section of the manual, they don't go into much of the automatic sea-based movement of supply... does this mean I have to do all the moving with automatic convoys?
so far I'm using alot of AKs and TKs to move things to where they're needed.

Perhaps someone could explain how inter-base supply works (especially in the pacific islands between Pearl Harbor and Sydney?

Thanks

You've basically deployed the cart before the horse. You have to establish your logistical network and bases before you start pushing major fleet units into an area.

Yeah, but the AI's got big forces massing Lae-New Britain-Rabaul and I wanted to try and discourage them.  Manage to hit the Hiei so hard it had to be scuttled (just come up on the Int intercepts) but have now run out of fuel. [:(]
Gosh, this game sure has a hard & realistic learning curve, hasn't it?
