Some v1095 questions

Post by hbrsvl »

Hi-Allies, scen.6, late 4/42.

1. What is proper altitude setting for VF attempting to intercept enemy VT?I have a SC TF, with BBs, I'm trying to protect in NE Australia, within Betty range of Lae. I've set alt at 1K ft.

2. TF in 1 can contain Colorado & Warspite. If I form the TF with Colorado & all US DDs as screen, I get a US TF. I've put a US RAD as commander. But, when I add Warspite, TF becomes British, even though Warspite's CO is a Captain. How come?

3. Air search arcs. At my Adak base, I've set Catalina VP arcs at 180-300. But, when I hit "show arcs", lines are from 180 to about 240-250. In my understanding, the 180 is straight south and 270 would be due west, from base. 300 would be NW of the 270 line. What am I missing? Are the arcs set to true bearings rather than relative? This sort of thing has happened at other Allied bases, too.

Thanks, Hugh Browne

Not enough planes are searching. One plane can only search 20 degrees of arc per day (10 in the morning, 10 in the afternoon). You're only searching 60 degrees (180-240) so you must only have 3 planes in that squadron on search. You'll need at least 6 to cover the full arc from 180-300.

Jones944-The squadron screen shows 7 aircraft "servicable". But, I'm at 50% search, 50% rest.

I'll go to 80-20 and see what happens. Thanks, HB

2.  The highest ranked ship ("lowest" ID in the database) will always be the flagship of a TF.  The TF commander will always be the same nationality as the flagship.

You will probably see an increase in ops losses. To hold ops losses low, I keep squadrons at 40% search and the range at 75%. Sometimes you have to have two or more squadrons at the same base to cover the area you wish. I will also use some of the B-17s and even a few B-18s if I have to.

Try assigning only US navy ships to a task force first, then select the commander, then add British ships. The TF will remain USN.
