No wormholes?

Post by Grotius »

I have yet to see a wormhole. When I discover the relevant techs, I don't see any wormhole symbols; I assume I'd see them on the map if they exist?

I read here that they only appear on larger maps; is that right? The largest map I've played is only somewhat larger than the 12-player scenario included with the game; 200 x something. Maybe that's why?

They're in the 12 Races scenario.

you need to research a thing called "detect wormholes".
And then your ships' or planet's scanners have to detect them, i.e. wormholes have to be in scan range.

You need to detect them with ship or tachyon sensors first after researching the wormhole techs.

Yes, I've developed the first two detection techs, and I have scanners scanning space around me...no wormholes. Maybe there aren't any near me? I'm playing on a random map.

I do get a message about wormholes whenever I right-click in a space containing one of my ships. Invariably, it'll say "you haven't developed the tech to explore this wormhole yet," even though I don't see any wormholes.

I've had this happen too.I think this is a little bug that doesn't affect play too much as that is how you explore a wormhole when you have the relevant tech.
Gen. Montgomery: "Your men don't salute much."
Gen. Freyberg: "Well, if you wave at them they'll usually wave back."

I have discovered wormholes on random 120x120 maps, but they are 'few and far between', only found one or two on a map.  There were probably more but never fully explored the whole map.

OK, thanks, Andrew. I'll see if I discover any once I learn the final wormhole-detection tech.

They worked for me last night.
You'll find the Large ones first, then the Medium ones, and then the Small ones. Maybe there weren't any of those sizes in your area.

The r-click message appears when you r-click on the active square (where you l-clicked). That's because when you want to move through a wormhole you have to have your fleet on top of it, and then r-click on the same square. Next turn the fleet will appear on the other end.
You need the "Use WH" techs for that though, and that's what the message is telling you. In order to explore the WH, you have to have a ship travel through it once, to determine the end point.

I finally found a couple -- not many at all, but a couple. They're pretty neat. :)

Thanks for the help!
